The history of LoL dance.

In the first round of the (now iconic) Best Dance Poll, the currently last post asked this question:

Quote:
CnB84:
What are the names for the difference dances?

This, is of course, an effort worth undertaking.

Every dance for every champion explained.

Can I do it on my own? Hells no.

So contribute people. Help me out here.

Don't your know characters dance moves?

Fortunately there are youtube videos showing most of the characters dance moves:

Note: these aren't mine. If the person(s) who did put them up says who they are i'll mention it in this post of this thread.

Im am the one responsable for the dance party videos if you were wonding who made them that is.

These are the dances I consider solved (these will change if i'm wrong):
---------

---------
Dr. Mundo: Coronach (Riot Employee) has identified it as the dance Dr. House does.
Quote:
Coronach:
Mundo's dance is actually based off this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0jpd3cZnYc&feature=related

It just doesn't translate quite as well without the cane, but nonetheless they're equally cool doctors since Dr. House practices medicine as he pleases.

---------

---------
Ezrael (Ezreal) - It's the choreography to Hare Hare Yukai
Quote:

WORLD WIDE PANDEMIC

Quote:
GreyPowerVan:
Ezreal isn't a J-pop dance... it's from anime. Hare Hare Yukai(sunny sunny happiness) from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Quote:
Celestya:
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, the name of the dance Ezreal does is the Hare Hare Yukai dance.

Video of performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMNZTF4amvw
Wiki explains further:
"Hare Hare Yukai" (ハレ晴レユカイ lit. Sunny Sunny Happiness?) is the ending theme to the Japanese anime series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The song is performed in Japanese by Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara and Yuko Goto, the respective voices of the characters Haruhi Suzumiya, Yuki Nagato and Mikuru Asahina from the series.

The very popular animated choreography accompanying the song, originally broadcast as part of the closing credits, became an Internet meme which inspired many parodies and fanmade videos on the Internet, many of which were posted on video sharing websites such as YouTube.[5] The choreography was based on several singles by the idol group Berryz Kobo, including "Gag 100kaibun Ai****e Kudasai", "Special Generation", and "21ji Made No Cinderella".
---------

---------
Shaco -it's the Worm
Wiki says: The WORM sometimes referred to as the dolphin is a dance motion often associated with breakdancing and "funk" subculture in which a subject lies supine and forms a rippling motion through their body, creating a wave reminiscent of a worm crawling.

Video of the WORM is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcGEIlNFk4Q (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcGEIlNFk4Q)
---------

---------
Singed - Jump on it Dance.
Quote:
Federici:
Singed is doin it right. His dance is one of the best. Lots of people think he is doing "the sprinkler". My god this is so far from wrong!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7h-2UmHuxQ

Further Information:
The mainstay dance routine of wedding parties, high school dances and suburban parties can be traced back to this scene from Fresh Prince of Bel Air. The song is "Jump On It" by Sir-Mix-A-Lot, a remix from 70's song 'Apache' by Tommy Seebach, which started another interesting meme. The actual episode is entitled: Strip-Tease For Two and it's from Season 2, Episode 24 (Air Date: May 4, 1992)

---------

---------
Urf: See Warwick.
---------

---------
Warwick - It's the dance from Michael Jackson's song: Thriller
wiki explains more: Thriller" is a song by American recording artist Michael Jackson from his sixth studio album Thriller. In the video's most iconic scene, Jackson leads other actors costumed as zombies in a choreographed dance routine. Video of the dance from Thriller can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un3-Hb9wF9s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un3-Hb9wF9s)

Let's go:

Alistar - I suspect it's ballet.

Quote:
StretchyStretch:

Alistar kinda looks like the Flamenco or something.

Quote:
FuYA:
Alistar is doing a very typical Spanish Flamenco. Sometimes done by bullfighters. You can see this in the part were he raises his hand over his head and the other arm across his chest, he just needs to say OLE!!

---------

Al'Zahar (Mal'Zahar)
Quote:
Tram:
I might add that the newest Champion out there got the MC Hammer dance from Can't Touch This:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c4L4CPfQY8&feature=fvst

Quote:
Ryhndwier:
malzahar does the running man after a bit of what seems to be a flair.

--------

Amumu - Some kind of emo dance. I suspect it's in reference to the South Park's goth kids, probably the episode You for F'd in the A or Raisins. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U2Z7-3JDzo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U2Z7-3JDzo) Someone else suggested it was this:
Quote:
NinjaBoyLao:
Amumu's dance is from Peanuts IIRC
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0G8XH4WDxP4&feature=related

Quote:
Fuz2o:
Amumu is the goth/emo kid dance from south park, complete with cigarette puffing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5bktiLdDr8&feature=related

---------

Anivia - I think it's the chicken dance. From Wiki: The "Chicken Dance" is an oom-pah song composed by Swiss accordion (Handharmonika) player Werner Thomas from Davos, Switzerland in the 1950s and the corresponding fad dance. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_MPCUyuqJ8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_MPCUyuqJ8)
---------

Annie - I think annie is tap dancing. The more i look into it, perhaps it's a reference to the "Little Rascals"? Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB72sruidrA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB72sruidrA)

Another option is that she's doing the shirley temple tap dance:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe3dZmkaq0Q (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe3dZmkaq0Q)
---------

Akali
Quote:
La Migra:

Akali does the dance from Beyonce's "Single Ladies": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyHVQT8aIBM

---------

Ashe - I can't remember what ashe's dance even is.
Someone suggested this (please let me know if true):
Quote:
Shakodar:
Ashe's dance is this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceSxEjwXHcM

Quote:
Shakodar:
If you are still unclear of my original post, here is more detail:

Ashe's dance is this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceSxEjwXHcM

Go to 3:20 during the song, and that is where Ashe starts dancing. SUCCESS!

.

Quote:
seresibyl:
If you want to say that's Ashe's dance, that's fine.

But they ripped it off of Night Elves, which Blizzard ripped off of Alizee.

>=P

i've been looking into this lately and found this out: Alizée's dance from "J'en Ai Marre" was the influence for the night elf female dance from Warcraft. So I guess it's possible that League of Legends has snuck that in as a homage to either Alizée or Warcraft.
---------

Blitzcrank - Macarena. From wiki: "Macarena" is a Spanish song by Los del Río about a woman of the same name. It was popular between 1995 and 1996, although it continues to have a cult following to this day.
---------

Cho'gath - Don't know. it stands there and waves it's arms. that's it.

Quote:
La Migra:

Cho'gath's dance may be a reference to Naughty By Nature's 'Hip-Hop Hooray': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA2_-eQ26tY

Quote:
Bade:
It might just be random arm-flailing, but I think Cho'gath is supposed to be the dual arm-waving dance that audience members often do. Commonly seen in "we are the champions" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sogKUx_q7ig watch around 2:19. Not everyone's doing it, but it's similar.

---------

Corki - Barrel roll?

Quote:
Animehero:
I can't believe that no one knows where Corki's dance is from....and you all consider yourself gamers? :P

Corki's dance is from the game Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo 64. A character called Peppy says "Do a barrel roll!". A barrel roll is a move in the game whereby your ship does a complete roll, just like in Corki's dance.

Here's a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIkJvY96i8w

Peppy doesn't say "Do a barrel roll!" randomly like he does in this clip, but hopefully you get the point .

---------

Dr Mundo - I suspect it might be some form of a shuffle?
Quote:
NecroMage:
Mundo does the Mundo Shuffle as he pleases!

Looking at it further, i suspect it is a form of shuffle, maybe a really lame hardstyle Melbourne Shuffle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTYEIBK5X1o (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTYEIBK5X1o)

Quote:
toddlol:
Mundo's dance always reminded me of the Lollipop Guild from Oz

Dr. Mundo.

It just doesn't translate quite as well without the cane, but nonetheless they're equally cool doctors since Dr. House practices medicine as he pleases.

---------

Evelynn -
---------

Ezrael (Ezreal) - This explains it better then i can (it's a J-Pop dance):

---------

Fiddlesticks -
Quote:
Bashbrizecul:
Fiddle's reminds me of the simpson episode where Homer remembers diving into the old quarry and finding Smither's dad's corpse. When Mesmerino hypnotizes him, he just runs around saying "I'm a famous historian! Out of my way!". It's not a dance but that's what I thought the first time.

This got me thinking of scarecrows dancing, which made me think of wizard of oz
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSFQy_cLvLU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSFQy_cLvLU) Try about 1:08 into the video.

Quote:
La Migra:
Fiddlesticks' dance is the 'bull dance' from Happy Gilmore.

---------

Gankplank -
Quote:
Lord GiantR:
I think Gangplank is dancing the you are a pirate dance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLsJyfN0ICU
I think from about 0:35.

Quote:

Garen -

Gragas -

If I am not mistaken, Gragas' Dance is the truffle Shuffle as seen in the goonies =P

---------

Heimerdinger -
Quote:
Malfisar:
Heimerdinger just breaks it down old school style by doing the classic break dance move where they spin on there head.

I will post more as i think of more
~Malfisar

---------

Janna -
---------

Jax - This is gonna be a hard on to find out if it's true or not, gonna search youtube see what i find:
Quote:
talenrok:
Jax - from Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" ballet

meanwhile, i have some strange feeling that it was something to do with Gene Kelly's performance of "Singing in the rain". Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmCpOKtN8ME (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmCpOKtN8ME) Although, i'll be the first to admit it's the umbrella is in the wrong hand for most of the performance and i don't think the actual motion is done in the clip, but, ya know, the dance jax does reminds me of that.

---------

Karthus -
Quote:
StretchyStretch:
Karthus is banging his head with his fist in the air.

I think he's supposing to be moshing.

---------

Kassadin -

And Kassadin is the sprinkler

Quote:
Zakkeh:
Kassadin's is "The Sprinkler"!

---------

Katarina - new information:
Quote:
Disturbed:
Katarina's dance is from movie Napoleon Dynamite.

---------

Kayle -
Quote:
godmode4eva:
i think kayle's is called the swim or the dive or something.... its part of the same dance that female warriors in guildwars would use.

Additional information for guildwars female warriors dance (which may be somehow related to kayle's dance):
The female warrior dance is based on Uma Thurman's dance from Pulp Fiction. It involves The Twist, The Watusi, and The Swim. picture here (http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:Female_Warrior_Dance.gif)
Video of Uma Thurman dancing in Pulp Fiction is here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4a60Dw8pQM)
---------

Kennen - It's a break dance, I suspect there's a flare in there, but, any more info then that would be great.

Quote:
xKoBiEx:
this is capoeira (with the star thrown for flash)

Youtube video of some capoeira is here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdZXp0Tq6Jk)
---------

Kog'Maw
Quote:
La Migra:

Kog'maw's dance is taken from a scene in Spaceballs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVZUVeMtYXc

I always assumed it was in reference to Michigan J Frog's dance: youtube clip here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1vH2rjUshk)

---------

Master Yi - without any other details (and frankly I have no idea what he's doing) this suggestion is the best I can do currently:
Quote:
Dracorya:
I think Master Yi just has some form of break dancing...

Quote:
cacoethes:
Master Yi's dance reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite's dance.

Compare http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmMAw5a7POU&feature=related at 4:37 to the recording of Master Yi's dance (by Grasshyren) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDqtPK2tLbU

Quote:
Numbat:
While the motions are a little similar, the rhythms between NP and Yi in that clip you pointed out are completely different.

Moreover, Kat already does Napolean Dynamite.

---------

Mordekasier -
Quote:
Zakkeh:
Mordekaiser's is air guitar ofc

Quote:

mord just rocks out, air guitar included

---------

Morgana -
Quote:

As far as I can tell, Morgana's seems to be a simple ballroom spin. I can't really think of anything else...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSl6kt320Bg

Quote:
Cerebellum:
I think Morgana is the Whirling Dervish spinning dance from Turkey.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnunfciSr7k&feature=related

---------

Nasus - It's the dance from Walk Like an Egyptian. Wiki explains further "Walk Like an Egyptian" is a number-one hit from the album Different Light by The Bangles in 1986. In lyrics of the song, there is a reference to a "sand dance" which is performed in the music video. The reference to the sand dance possibly refers to a music hall routine performed by Wilson, Keppel and Betty where Wilson and Keppel danced around in the postures portrayed on the reliefs wearing the fez while Betty watched.
---------

Nidalee - It's a pole dance - wiki: Pole dancing is a form of performing art, a combination of dancing and gymnastics.

Quote:
NotoriousPi:
Nidalee's dance is a strict spinning pole dancing move.

Here is a video detailing various pole dancing spins - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WamLkAROAg
This is purely for educational purposes to fulfill the thread to it's entirety.

---------

Nidalee (cat form?) - apparently nidalee has a different dance when she's in her cat form, this I did not know.
Quote:
FennecFoxx:
you missed nidalee cat dance :P
idk what it is tho

---------

Nunu -
Quote:
Da Orkz:
Also, Nunu's dance - if memory serves - is called the Running Man.

---------

Olaf
Quote:
La Migra:
Olaf's dance, like pretty much everything else about him, is a reference to Techno-Viking.

gonna assume techno viking is referring to the youtube guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIwLWNEZtbc)
----------

Pantheon - I just pray to god it's got nothing to do with the village people, because, that's what it reminds me of.

I actually now think this post is right about Pantheon's dance
Quote:
StretchyStretch:
Pantheon's dance looks like one of Elvis' moves.

This isn't quite the right elvis music video, but, i think it's similar to the moves in this elvis music video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpzV_0l5ILI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpzV_0l5ILI) Look around the 50 seconds mark.

Quote:
NotoriousPi:
Pantheon's dance, while it may be further traced back into Elvis's "Jail House Rock", can be better seen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ik-RsDGPI5Y&feature=related <---Here.

Look at from :35 - 1:00 for a better view of what his dance is. This is Vincent Vega dancing in the movie Pulp Fiction.

---------

Poppy - I suspect it's some form of highland jig.
Quote:
Waffles Inc:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUQX2B67KL4

My first impression of Poppy's dance.

---------

Rammus - he rolls around as a ball, i think it might be a break dancing move, i'll have to investigate further.
---------

Ryze - more information:

Quote:
Chthulu:

Ryze always looks like he's doing the ginga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_capoeira_techniques#Ginga) the way hippies do it, causing overwhelming urge to facepalm when you see them in the roda.

BOO Ryze.

---------

Shaco -it's the Worm: Wiki says: The WORM sometimes referred to as the dolphin is a dance motion often associated with breakdancing and "funk" subculture in which a subject lies supine and forms a rippling motion through their body, creating a wave reminiscent of a worm crawling.
---------

Shen: it's some movements from Tai Chi. WIki: T’ai Chi Chih ( 太 极 智 ) is a series of 19 movements and 1 pose that together make up a meditative form of exercise to which practitioners attribute physical and spiritual health benefits.
---------

Singed - Jump on it Dance.

Singed is doin it right. His dance is one of the best. Lots of people think he is doing "the sprinkler". My god this is so far from wrong!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7h-2UmHuxQ

---------

Sion - I think it's that russian dance: Barynya (i think that's what it's called - someone russian help me out here). He just doesn't bend his knees like he should:
Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQIAieKr8jk

Quote:
A Bad Idea:
If no one's mentioned it, Sion's dance is from Moskau (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQAKRw6mToA), performed by Dschinghis Khan. Watch from 1:15 for Sion's dance.

---------

Sivir - Personally, i think this has something to do with genie in a bottle, I suspect possible the dance moves in the music video, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGU3ZLutT5E (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGU3ZLutT5E) or this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIqHZGiTZms (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIqHZGiTZms) On the same lines, some of the moves in this music video are similar to sivir's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAkUtig5iG4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAkUtig5iG4) It's Holly Valance - Kiss Kiss.

someone posted this idea:

Teemo dances to the Badger Badger Badger song

Youtube video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIyixC9NsLI&NR (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIyixC9NsLI&NR)

probably more likely to be some form of boogie woogie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QQzbCmlZM4), jive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVKle-IeMIM) or line dance variant (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5rRxJ4Q0zc).
---------

Tristana - I suspect this might actually be more poppy then tristana (please let me know if true), but, for now:

Oh, and Tristana seems like riverdancing

Tyrndamere -

a video which is close to someone dancing the sirtake alone (it's two people side by side) looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIp5jO1Nk38 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIp5jO1Nk38)

I don't know if it's tyrndamere's dance, but, to be honest, it's a pretty cool dance.

Nsync's song "Bye Bye Bye": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ2jjGP2His (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ2jjGP2His)

around 2:20 on that video. The problem with that is it seems to be they are doing it with the wrong arm, although, I could have missed where there do it with the other arm.

Twitch -

Twitch's dance appears to be a small part of the Chippendale sketch.

The part Twitch does starts at about 2:04 in the video.

---------

Udyr - seems to be some sort of Drunken Style dance. I suspect it might be Zui Quan. Wiki: Zui Quan (Traditional and Simplified Chinese: 醉拳; pinyin: Zuì Quán, literally Drunken Fist, also known as Drunken Boxing or Drunkard's Boxing) is a concept in traditional Chinese martial arts, as well as a classification of modern Wushu forms.

---------

Warwick - It's the dance from thiller, wiki explains more: Thriller" is a song by American recording artist Michael Jackson from his sixth studio album Thriller. In the video's most iconic scene, Jackson leads other actors costumed as zombies in a choreographed dance routine.

Quote:
A Bad Idea:
Xin's "dance" is a kung fu polearm form, the name of which escapes me at the moment. The moves are similar to the moves performed by Kilik and Seong Mi-Na in Soul Calibur when you watch their weapon demos.

---------

Zilean -

Really need Gragas's dance explained, as it is by far the best dance in the game. Fiddle's is hilarious though, in a psychotic freak kind of way.

OP speculates too much.

Ezreal's dance is from an anime but i cannot remember the name.

How you would think that is breakdancing makes me wonder about you, sir. Not quite getting why youd say pantheon reminds you of the village people either....

If anything, heimerdinger is the breakdancer HELLO

ps ashe is another stripper and i think kayle's is called the swim or the dive or something.... its part of the same dance that female warriors in guildwars would use.

If Zilean doesn't do the "Time Warp" from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, I'd be surprised. Never really tried myself sadly enough.

Ezreal isn't a J-pop dance... it's from anime. Hare Hare Yukai(sunny sunny happiness) from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, the name of the dance Ezreal does is the Hare Hare Yukai dance.

Mordekaiser is simply "rocking out" pretending his mace is a guitar.

He just crosses his arms and goes from right to left. If it is the Time Warp it is a very bad imitation.
