I feel a lot worse for Grez who worked at it for over a year. He should really get to design a champion.

How did B^Uckley get 10000 referrals? What, did he send pictures of his ***** to 10,000 12 year old autistic girls? Or did he make 10,000 unfunny, offensive, abortion comics?

A new champion approaches: Bum Tickley

Seriously though, it shouldn't count if the referrals were gained through a business.
Websites like IGN, GameFAQs, even 4chan /v/, are responsible for the spread of Lo'Ls popularity, and I don't think they're getting credit for it.

Yeah, and they've been doing it for months or even over a year before this talentless hack got ahold of this game.

That however means that the concept itself is already pretty fleshed out.

Of course it's not a - "you get to drop whatever Champion you want in the game" type of thing =D. Our own designers don't even get to do that - it's a very collaborative process.

That being said, we're going to update the language on the page to clarify
I would much rather have a say in the theme of the champion than it's abilities' balance. The most rewarding portion of the entire thing if you are only going to visit the one time is deciding what TYPE of champion it will be, what they will look like, etc - Who gives two ****s about the balance portion? That's the bulk of the work anyways.

I'd much rather say "Hey guys, I'd really like to see a wyvern as a champion, or a water elemental and this is more or less what I think it should look like to give you an example *hands in a sketch*" As opposed to "Oh hai guys, I see you're just working out the numbers on the champion I was supposed to be allowed to design with you. I don't really know anything about game balance, so what I say isn't going to matter anyways - do what you want because you're going to end up doing it no matter what"

Sorry if that sounds rude, but that's the best way I can explain it. Also, you guys should REALLY update the reward description to better say this now that all this info has been clarified and the reward page makes it seem significantly more glorified than it is.

I guess the point of this thread is to make the community aware that riot is legally obligated to change their referral rewards page to reflect the actual nature of the prize but in addition make the community aware that riot has no intention of anyone ever designing a champion but them, which saddens me to no end.

Riot seems to like having us view things like Dreamhack online, loves the fact that the ESL chose their game for the Intel Extreme Series but apparently doesn't love their fans enough to allow us to help design and give serious feedback and help creating champions for a game we love.

Just wanted everyone to know.

And of course knowing the community, some trolls and flamers are sure to come out of the woodworks on this one, I could care less.
We don't care. Tim B^Uckley is a scumbag piece of trash, and letting him touch any aspect of this game's production would tarnish the product. His utter lack of creativity in making his misogynistic webcomic, and his abhorrent qualities as a person do not qualify him to make a champion in League of Legends; in fact, they are what disqualify him. Oh, and he plagiarizes.

the problem is how do you even explain to someone what they even get? it's like "if you have a good idea for a character we'll surely be able to incorporate that champion into our game, but if you're a dim bulb whose ideas won't transition at all into the game, we really can't do much more than show you around the office and make phreak dance for your amusement..."

this is what >i< would want to get if i got that many referrals

1. meet riot people
2. brainstorm session with champ development team
3. collaboratively come up with a solid champion idea that would be considered "my champ" that would be put into development
4. ongoing dialogue about development progress and input/feedback as the champion gets built
5. flashy release announcement when it comes out "blahblah this champion was designed by so-and-so"
6. and then maybe when i play that character it has a special halo or particle effect that no one else gets

which shouldn't be too terribly hard to wing, really

And for the people just replying to the OP, go read Pendragon's response.
im gona go ahead an laugh in ur face. the only part of the development process that takes long is balancing. coming up with ideas is easy for a game with so few champs. the reason it takes so long for riot to come up with ideas is cause their too dam lazy to add the tech necessary to make more interesting champs. also their too scared to upset the kidies with "ANTI FUN" concepts. anti fun my ass little kids want to have fun go play mario.

Who cares? Are all the candy-asses upset about this sleeping with this guy or something?

He is just some dbag author who somehow got a personal army of minions to do his bidding.

Maybe anyone upset about his disappointment should just go offer to rub his back.
