I've had a similar issue, except I haven't been able to log into LoL at all. I've had it on my computer a week or so now and downloaded a couple patches, but nothing works. I get the same exact issue that my firewall may be causing problems, but I've turned it off and still get the same problems.

To original poster: you really need to contact your IT department to find out what firewall rules are in place before a better understanding of what is going on can happen.

to Occamsrazor: I cannot comment with the lack of information you have provided. Have you disabled the windows firewall? have you disabled the router firewall? have you tried port forwards? What kind of internet do you have? Is your internet provided to you like the OP?

You're right. Let's try this:

There are no firewall rules in place.

We use a range of ports for the game between 5000-5050. It is possible that you are sometimes assigned on that is blocked. Try this program to help diagnose potential problems. http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/

Also keep an eye on this thread which I update when we solve these sorts of problems:

Well I never had this problem before ever, but suddenly today it just happened. Joined a game with some friends, went through champion select, the league of legends logo popped up.... and nothing. After like 30 seconds, message saying unable to connect, check firewall. Problem is, I'm on the same comp i've been on for the last year, same network i've been using for the last year, and have made no changes at all since the last time i played League (haven't even turned on my computer since then), which was all of 6 hours ago. This suggests the problem is server side, not client side.

This just happened to our whole team... all in different locations and we've been playing all night.
