ALTHOUGH... I'm going to ask One small favor from you.

...I'm not too familiar with -ALL- the terms used in this post, but Anything that makes information more accessible to the public is a welcome addition in my books. It's a very strong possibility that I'm just a tad slow in the head, and anyone Remotely technosavy will understand this in a moment... but would you kindly name a few ways that other users could possibly benefit from this, in a nice, stu-- err... "considerate" manner for the computer illiterate?

Until then, I'm putting it under "misc." if that's alright with you. ^_^

EDIT: Yes, I was too shy to ask on the thread itself, and make myself look like an idiot. <///<
Sure, to explain more on the matter, a public API for retrieving all the fine details based around items and heroes, and user profiles with public accesible data.

an API its like a set of functions or standards used by programmers to connect to other services. In this case, I am requesting Riot to make a standard set of functions or access points so that we, the application programmers, can fetch up to date item and champion details, as well as public information of the user profiles (by public information I mean the one aproved by Riot to be freely accessible to third parties).

To give an idea of what could be done if this API was done by Riot, we could make web applications like the ever up to date wow armoury, make item build pages with always up to date item info or phone apps that would be able to query (list but not modify) your mastieries/runes/match history on the go.

So its a very nice win to everyone if this is done, it all depends on the flexibility and robustness of the API provided if it is ever done.

-EDIT:
Currently what application/websites developers have to do is follow all the patch notes and do some research on every patch to update their apps/sites. And dont take vacations, etc, otherwise their apps/sites would go outdated quick.

Sometimes, we prefer a little Lan gaming, rather than remote servers.
Please remove that.
Since LoL is completely server-based, that would require handing out the server software,
which would then immediately be prodded, decompiled etc. to find ways to cheat when playing
on the _Riot_ servers... Sometimes a bit of extra "security through obscurity" can be a good thing.
Offline play is not worth the risks.

apparently when the EU Riotters visited the LA office last week, they were shown an
(unfinished) "live preview" of spectator mode.
(I wonder if the tournament realm spectator hack still being broken is because they've
been investing resources into rushing that real spectator mode instead...)

@Petercantropus: for marketing reasons, Riot probably don't want to give you an API
through which you can easily retrieve things like total number of players etc.
They like to keep that kind of info secret/exclusive for magazine interviews, big news announcements etc. ;-P

..Aye I read your opinion on it already. ^_^ It's a good point, but that Particular thread is still not "Obsolete" and it still contains no Riot comments on it to completely disclaim the idea... And it is a popular desire. From it stems requests for off-server games (Not exceptionally LAN games) for things like the tutorial, or a custom game vs. bots.

I haven't taken that grand an endeavor to search the forums for other such thread, with a Riot comment included. If you can find one, please do comment with it!

Good thread. It'll take me a while to look through all this.

Forum search is terrible (heck, until they "brought search back" EU search was more advanced than current US/EU search</rant>)
and doesn't seem to have the "contains a red post" marking like normal forum index does.

People just don't seem to realise how _dumb_ the client is: it just accepts your input, sends it to the server and slavishly does what the server tells it to.
An intermediate bot has more intelligence than the client! ;-P
Dumb is a _good_ thing though because it (mostly?) prevents manipulation of the client from affecting the game
and the dumbness is exactly what enabled that 3rd party replay program to work...

For safety, a LAN mode would probably involve a complete new/extra "offline" game program, probably written by
a different team (again for safety) than the "online" client, only re-using the graphics from the online client...

Because of the fail streaming of the EU dreamhack qualifiers, I had some time between matches to sift through search:

...All right. Point taken, and Riot comments included...

I wish you'd have posted this all Directly on the subject's thread as well, but, if you don't mind, I'm going to quote/copy/paste it in if you don't. ^_^ It's evidence enough for my eyes... And until there's a Genuine discussion regarding a miracle anti-hack system of some sort, or other plausible routes that Riot can take to bring the game Offline, or into safe LAN play, I'll include a note of such in the Summary.

Thanks again for the references!

Oh..and... Apologies, spreche nicht Deutsch (If I got that right..)
