Sitting in the brush the entire top while soloing can really help. Even if the enemy team knows you're there, it will keep them out of the brush, and denying them the stealth advantage. Or at the least you will always know if they enter it and you don't have to worry about face-checking either. IMO controlling the side brush on the top/bot lanes can help you win the lane in any circumstance.

Your leaving out the goal of being solo top; To deny the other top(s) EXP and farm, if you have to let your tower go at 10 mins to make sure that your lane opponent can't farm safely, then do it! Free farm for 10 mins will make you out lvl close to everyone on the map

Actually losing tower sometimes isn't a bad thing. If you are 1 v 2 or losing lane, losing your tower allows you more room without them pressuring you 24/7. A lost tower also allows you to roam more and help the team without losing unnecessary xp and gold to the tower.
