Master Yi, The Wuju Bladesman

Welcome to the League of Legends! If you're reading this, you're probably new(er) to the game. While the game is easily understandable with minor RTS gaming experience, it can be tricky. The biggest question arises, "What champion will I be????!!11"

An easy solution to this problem, is Master Yi. Master Yi is capable of formidable damage, and is by far one of the easier champions to control. A variety of builds exist for Master Yi, using both Attack Damage (AD) and Ability Power (AP). This build focuses on getting into the fray, dealing 30-60% of an enemy champion's health in one blow, clearing all of their minions at the same time, and getting out faster than lightning.

Behold, the Newbie's Guide to the AP build Master Yi.

Note: This build is a lot less common, as most people go AD Yi. Fear not, it's viable!
Edit: Master Yi is only 450 IP from the store, which is the cheapest price for any Champion. He's likely to be your first purchase!

1. Runes / Masteries
Seeing as you're probably reading this build from level 1 or slightly higher, you won't have many of these to spend freely, so I won't go into detail. In terms of runes, anything with cooldown reduction, mana, mana over time, or magic penetration are all valid as they will boost your ability to continuously damage your enemies without having to recall. As for masteries, ability power, cooldown reduction, and max mana all benefit this build.

2. Skills
Master Yi has the following five skills:

- Double Strike (Passive): Every 7th attack, Yi strikes twice
- Alpha Strike (Active): Master Yi strikes all nearby opponents from afar
- Meditate (Active): Master Yi channels Health to himself over 5 seconds
- Wuju Style (Active/Passive): Master Yi gains passive bonus damage to physical attacks, and when activated, this bonus is doubled for a short period of time.
- Highlander (Active): Master Yi gains a 40-60% increase in movement and attack speeds for the duration, and cannot be effected by slow, snare, or stun effects.

Skills are very easily followed when building AP Yi. The order is as follows:
1. Alpha Strike (Primary damage focus)
2. Meditate (Very powerful healing with high AP)
3. Alpha Strike
4. Wuju Style (Just to help killing minions)
5. Alpha Strike
6. Highlander (Useful for fleeing, or chasing enemies)
7. Meditate
8. Alpha Strike
9. Meditate
10. Alpha Strike
11. Highlander
12. Meditate
13. Wuju Style
14. Meditate
15. Wuju Style
16. Highlander
17. Wuju Style
18. Wuju Style

* Meditate and Alpha Strike are heavily dependant on AP, so the higher it is, the more damage and healing you can perform, making you a viable solo character.

3. Items
The build order for Master Yi's AP build is relatively the same in early games, and it's the late game items that are determined by the player or the situation.

PREFERRED ITEMS
1. Doran's Ring
2. Sorcerer's Shoes
3. Archangel's Staff
4. Rabadon's Deathcap

SITUATIONAL ITEMS
- Mejai's Soulstealer (if you're prone to getting lots of kills)
- Lich Bane (if you're prone to chase after champions and melee them with Wuju/Highlander)
- Morello's Evil Tome (if you want cooldown reduction, more Alpha Strikes)
- Hextech Gunblade (always a strong item)
- Rod of Ages (if mana and health are a problem)
- Void Staff (if they're stacking magic resistance)

It is VERY easy for Master Yi to gather money as an AP Build. Alpha Strike can sometimes do bonus damage to minions, giving you a guaranteed kill for the gold, and even if it doesn't, you do tremendous damage to a large amount of enemies clustered together.

4. Summoner Skills
Simple.

1. Ghost. This enables you to either chase enemies faster without wasting Highlander, or it can help you get out of a tricky situation all the same. Highlander doesn't have a HUGE cooldown, but having it ready at all times is a good plan. Also, if a hero themselves has a movement speed increase, Highlander + Ghost ensures you get away safely.

2. Exhaust. This is the exact same as Ghost, except instead of speeding yourself up, you slow them down. It generally serves the same purpose.

5. Tips/Strategies
- Always use Alpha Strike on a minion in FRONT of a champion when possible. This allows your Alpha Strike to actually attack the champion without it finishing next to them, allowing you to quickly escape any ranged champions with stuns, etc.
- Stay in the lane as long as possible to maximize minion farming. Use of Meditation is crucial to this.
- Don't try to be Dirk the Daring. That is, don't try to Alpha Strike your way into a tower, or a trap. Master Yi is powerful, but somewhat fragile.
- Meditate with extremely high AP values can heal nearly 2000 health over 5 seconds. You can use this to even become a pseudo-damage soak for your team, temporarily.
- Highlander means life or death; you can use it to escape an ambush after you've Alpha Striked your way into trouble, or it can mean chasing down that Garen with 17HP when he has Boots of Mobility.

6. Closing Comments

Well folks, this was really my first guide ever. It's a lot of fun trying to find the under-dog build to play in games because people would never see it coming. While lots of Melee characters have amazing AD builds for their speed and damage, never neglect the concept of an ability power build, even if it only utilizes one or two skills.

You should NEVER stack Deathcaps, stacking archangels are much better

It was essentially a joke. I'll edit that I suppose.

The problem, is that new players don't know the items well enough to know that you're joking, they're much more likely to take your post at face value. That you didn't think of that in your guide makes me sad.

Note the Meditate disruption methods and the Highlander Cooldown Refreshes? c:

Archangels aren't great on Yi because of the insanely slow charge time. Instead, a vital core is a Deathfire Grasp, so you can burst hard. This is an essential item on both AP Yi and Veigar IMO, and can be rushed even as a first item for bursting squishies.

AP Yi is not for beginners, actually this build is for no one. An AP build is a waste in this champion, you will be squishy, only 1 ability will increase its damage from AP and each time you face an enemy, you will be put face to face with him, or at least very close. This is an unwise build.

If you wish to mess around with AP builds in AD champion, try tristana. Her ult benefit 150% from your AP status, and she has an scape route, if she is able to kill at least one enemy.

Nerfed to the ground in the Eve/Twitch rework, am I the only one who noticed? E passive no longer applies from magic damage (W), now you can't blow people up anymore. She's can no longer W into minions then E+R for an instakill
