(See the attachment for more details about this, including the top 3 champions for each of the top 50 3v3 players)

First of all, I would like to thank Chenzhen for this post which inspired this one:

http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=507529

I did this list myself. It lists the names and 3 most used champions of all Ranked 3v3 players in the Top 50 as of Feb. 14, 2011. Instead of giving you a long list of names and champions, I'm going to give you the quick and dirty list which list the popular champions (at least 2 players main them and at least 3 players have them in their top 3).

Something interesting to note: except for udyr, no champion is used more than twice by the top 10 players.

champion - popularity ("3+ top 50 players use them" + "2+ top 50 players use them as their main&quot

ezreal - 15
udyr - 14
shen - 12
warwick - 12
morgana - 10
shaco - 8
xin zhao - 8
singed - 7
anivia - 6
dr. mundo - 6
cho'gath - 5
janna - 5
nidalee - 5
nunu - 5
twitch - 5

honorable mentions:
kennen - 6
miss fortune - 5

Of these popular 3v3 champions (or at least used by the top 50 3v3 players), there are:

2 assassins
7 bruisers
2 carries****
2 junglers*
3 mages
1 pusher**
2 stealth*****
4 support
1 tank***

*The junglers are also bruisers (warwick and nunu)
**The pusher is also a support (nidalee)
***the tank is also a support (shen)

****If you take out ezreal, carries are also stealth (twitch)
*****If you consider twitch an assassin, stealth are also assassins (twitch and shaco)

If you simplify the list (using the above notes), we now have:

3 assassins
7 bruisers
3 mages
4 support

Theory section (this could be wrong, so if you are on this thread looking for advice, ignore the following unless you read the rest of this thread which might discuss this)

Based off this, is it possible that the ideal 3v3 team line up consist of the following:

a bruiser (udyr, warwick, xin zhao, singed, dr. mundo, cho'gath, nunu)
a support (shen, morgana, janna, nidalee)
plus one other:
assassin for dps (shaco, xin zhao, twitch)
bruiser for staying power
mage for magic or ap damage (morgana, anivia, cho'gath)

Kind of surprised to not see Tryn, to be honest.

Data from the entirety of the season is a little meaningless.

There is no way to filter their top played for 3v3 so this list is meaningless.

Most played champs count for all ranked games. So this won't show an accurate depiction of their
3v3 picks. Most high ranking 3v3 are also high ranking in the other two ladders ie TheOddOne

Edit: double ninja'd

However, it still gives a view into what is picked. The lowest number of 3v3 ranked that these top 50 have played is 49. While they're main character for 5v5 will be on there, this should show what they are playing in 3v3 as well. Most people only have a little over 60+ games with any character other than their main.

There isn't any set of statistical date that is completely meaningful. But there isn't any set that is completely useless. So just look at the numbers and figure what you can figure with them.
