1. This is a Trundle topic

People call me the jungle king (though to be honest they should just call me the jungle nerd) since i have a large pool of jungle knowledge and heroes i can jungle with (mostly only jungle as the viable ones though). By far Trundle is currently my best jungler and is INCREDIBLY fun to use. People still have trouble using him and I hope this guide can help somewhat. He is a very underrated champion that Riot believes is good just under-appreciated which is why riot isn't going to buff him any time soon. Trundle is, in my opinion, one of the strongest junglers currently in the game.

2. Defeat Trundle? You must be trolling

Trundle is an S ranked jungler. He’s a very strong invader and has niches that other melee champions do not have. His jungling is very fast, very well sustained, very safe, snowballs a good amount and he is an incredibly powerful invader. When it comes to ganking – he is able to set up elaborate ganks with the proper use of his contaminate and pillar of filth.

Trundle’s Strengths
- S rank jungler
- Incredibly mobile
- Strong Debuffs
- Can shrug off CC and focus
- A battle changing wall
- Tons of built in steroid
- Easy to kite opponents
- Can make tanks into squishies

Trundle’s Weaknesses
- Squishy early on
- Effectiveness is crushed without map awareness
- Must get cooldown reduction in order to be fully effective
- Damage does not compare to that of other melee heroes
- Weak mana pool does not support abilities well enough without items
- Not easy to use to full effectiveness
- A buff hog

3. Let's go clubbing

Trundle’s Rabid Bite (here on known as Q) is an extension of his melee attack. It’s an ability that causes him to lunge at the opponent, sapping some of the target’s attack damage (debuff) and gaining some attack damage of his own (steroid). It also resets his swing which allows him to provide a 1-2 hit AND it also applies on hit effects. It’s on a relatively short cooldown. In short, this is Trundle’s bread and butter way of dealing damage

While it’s a standard damage dealing ability it also comes with some tricks to it, intended or not, that can be used to increase Trundle’s Effectiveness. As Trundle hits his Q, the player can immediately move to another location (avoiding clicking a minion or enemy champion- NOTE this is VERY hard to do correctly even i can't do it all the time) and the Q damage will still go through while Trundle glides a short distance to another location. This could be useful in some situations when Trundle merely wants to harass using his superior speed but not stick around for a fight. His Q also resets the animation of his contaminate – which is useful to avoid the animation which hinders his auto attacks.

4. Leeroy Jenkins!

Trundle’s Contaminate (here on known as W) covers a large area with filth which gives Trundle, whenever he’s on it, massive attack speed, movement speed and crowd control reduction. With good cooldown reduction it can be used constantly. It is a built in ghost that Trundle has which also makes him harder to focus and control. Improper use of it though can run his mana dry.

It also has some tricks to it much like his Q. Trundle’s W can reset the animation from Q as well as Trundle’s auto attack (which isn’t useful since W has a long animation anyways). It also resets the animation from his pillar of filth.

The trick to making the best use of his contaminate is to judge the situation perfectly (which in turn is helped out by map awareness through clairvoyance and wards). When chasing after a target it is best to lay it so it covers an area that will not only speed your advance towards the target but in any location he may be trying to retreat to. If you are uncertain about your advance – lay it so you can use it to escape if the approach can go sour. That means either place it in front of you or on yourself. Using it on intersections and near bushes is one of the best ways of using it. You can use bush tactics to juke and counter attack thanks to the speed provided and intersections can be used to trick your opponents’ skillshots or movements.

When ganking it is usually (not always) best to start off with a well placed contaminate to close the gap. Either the target will use their escape abilities to avoid you (which is a successful gank if it was summoner spells) or they’ll take a club to the face.

5. Its a trap!

Trundle’s Pillar of Filth (here on known as his E) erects a giant wall that blocks off the path of any champion, friend or foe, and also slows anyone AROUND the wall as well. It’s on a decent cooldown and provides many uses both for initiating and counter initiating. It is best used in narrow corridors or against walls. It also gives vision in an area where cast.

When ganking, Trundle puts his E to best use after he has closed the gap with W. If the target uses any escape Trundle can easily block off the escape route and slow the target down giving him enough time to maul the target somewhat.

There are other crazy tricks one can pull off with the wall. Trundle’s E can STOP channeling for most abilities such as Karthus’s ultimate, Nunu’s ultimate, Pantheon’s Jump (both on landing and start) and can stop blue pilling, pathing orders and cause vlad to be stuck in place during pool ONLY if (in all cases) Trundle casts E BENEATH the champions.

When jungling, Trundle’s E can be used to aggro the mobs in order to lure them out safely or cause leashing problems for the enemy jungler. E can also be used to aggro Baron which will immediately attack anyone near it AND can sometimes cause Baron to kill a ward nearby.

6. Not sure if troll or not

Trundle’s Agony (here on known as his R/ultimate) places a debuff on a target and drains a percentage of their armor and magic resistance and health and gives it to Trundle. Following the initial drain Trundle will steal the exact same amount over the next 6 seconds. The damage isn’t so great but the armor and magic resistance drain makes it so Trundle gains free boosted stats at the expense of an opponent. Trundle can use it to make a focus target softer for the kill or to drain a tank and make himself beefier while at the same time making the tank easier to kill.

Trundle’s ultimate has a trick to it as well which was intended (not a bug). If Trundle uses his ultimate on an enemy champion who is currently under the effects of a defensive steroid (boosted stats) Trundle will gain the % of those boosted stats. Not only that but even if the target’s defensive steroid ends Trundle will STILL be draining the same amount he was originally draining. Thus his target will be drained of EVEN MORE resistances than he normally would have and it is possible to drain the target below zero resistances.

7. Don't feed the troll

Trundle is VERY powerful later in the game and strong in 1v1 situations. If he’s allowed to snowball – he can wreck a team easily. There are ways for him to snowball out of control – if he gains successful ganks on the enemy, if he dominates the enemy jungler (especially if he controls the enemy blue), or by being able to pick off choice targets.

That being said – Trundle pumps out dps with few items. Currently there are two optimal builds on him with some more niche builds out there. The TRUE core items for him are at the end of this section.

The Offensive Route
Lantern, Mercury Treads, Sheen/Phage Trinity Force, Banshee’s Veil x items

A basic DPS build that suits him quite well. Sheen is very powerful when combined with his Q basically making the bite a beefed up attack immediately. It also helps him with some of his mana issues. Phage gives him stronger chasing power and Trinity Force only makes him a stronger fighter. Banshee’s Veil makes him even more difficult to control. Afterward, Trundle can opt for more dps from a ghostblade (and cooldown reduction) or build tankier or an atma’s impaler to make his HP into dps.

The Survivability/ Control Route
Lantern, Mercury Treads, Phage, Heart of Gold, Spirit Visage, Frozen Mallet, Randuin’s Omen

This build is a lot more tankier and aims to grab defensive items first and cooldown reduction. With Frozen Mallet and reduced cooldowns, it is very possible and easy for Trundle to control a target and chase almost any hero down. Randuin’s Omen also makes it difficult for AD based heroes to deal with him or focus him down and it makes it difficult to catch him. Atma’s Impaler is usually a following item to gain more damage.

Niche Items
Guinsoo’s Rageblade – gives him attack speed and ability power to help his ultimate
Black Cleaver – Trundle is quickly able to build up debuffs with it and gives him more damage than trinity force would but none of the defensive or utility abilities
Boots of Lucidity – Cheap cooldown reduction
Manamune – Trundle easily builds up the effect of the manamune and it solves Trundle’s mana issues though it sets him behind from his preferred items and it doesn’t build into anything.
Hextech Gunlade – boots Trundle’s ultimate while giving him useful stats and more chasing ability

Core Items
Mercury Treads – More CC reduction is always good and it helps avoid being focused fired while adding much needed resistance to Trundle.
Wriggle’s Lantern – Trundle can double proc the minion killing ability and the lifesteal. It gives Trundle enormous jungle power and it gives him a free ward which is key to his jungle dominance and team battle prowess.
Elixir of Fortitude – After his first items are complete, Trundle should never leave the base without one. It provides him with much needed health for mid game and a very large amount of damage with his 1-2 Q combination.
Oracle Elixir – Trundle becomes a god if he secures map dominance. This helps him do it.
Wards – How else will he gain map dominance

The best summoner spells for Trundle
Smite – if he’s jungling this is necessary
Ghost – though he may already have a built in ghost, giving him even more mobility is no joke and it comes in handy when his W is down. This is his best summoner spell.
Exhaust – if the enemy wasn’t debuffed enough here comes some more feebleness. It allows Trundle to dance around the target and usually guarantees a kill on a lone person.
Flash – Helps escape severe focus fire (just in case) and can lead to better clutch positioning for his wall.

8. Great, the troll has friends

Trundle is a champion that is best thrown with teams that are mobile, can kite and harass, and have ranged disables. So far, in my opinion, the following heroes are some of the best to have in your team when you are Trundle.

Teemo - by far the best ally to have on your team. Trundle excels when the map belongs to your team far more than most heroes and Teemo gives you that advantage with free wards and damaging slows. Trundle's mobility can lead his enemies to mushrooms and quickly turn the tied against him. Teemo and Trundle are a deadly combination as they can lead the enemy into ambushes and escape almost any situation together as they kite the entire enemy team.

Janna - Giving Trundle more mobility, an AD shield that buffs his Q, a tornado that can be timed according to Trundle's erratic movements and an ultimate that can save Trundle in case he couldn't shake off focus - Janna was made to help out Trundle.

Anivia - If double walls weren't enough - Anivia's ultimate slow allows for Trundle to control space even easier with his contaminate. The enemy team will have a more difficult time trying to focus Trundle and with reset tricks Trundle can lead enemies into Anivia's ranged stun or Anivia can lead the enemy into Trundle's clutches.

Zilean - If Trundle wasn't fast enough then here's the perfect partner for him. Not only can Trundle gain added speed but Trundle is a good deliveryboy for time bombs with his ridiculous speed. If Trundle is given a second chance at life during a fight - most likely someone is bound to die and Trundle will heal even more. The speed boost on Trundle is by far the best asset though.

Cho Gath - Cho Gath's rupture may be tricky to land but good timing between Trundle's wall and Cho Gath's rupture can lead to success. Even better is the fact that Cho Gath is so good at covering Trundle when Trundle goes in for melee harassment. Cho Gath can simply scare the enemy off with a channeling rupture behind Trundle's escape or, if they give chase, silence those that get close giving Trundle a bit more time to harass or for his retreat.

9. Obvious Troll is Obvious

Jungle Trundle – runes and masteries provided in videos

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNy3lMonjU8 (sustained route)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hvApbh-CKg (offensive route)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq6L9_3wMoY (mindset of Trundle)

The sustained route is better picked when your lane partners aren't very strong to secure ganks with and/or the enemy are difficult to gank. The offensive route leaves you with less hp and gold BUT gives you a huge time advantage for ganking and invasion. Best to use this when fighting a weak enemy jungler or easy ganking targets like Ashe and Sona.

When it comes to team fights, contrary to what most other melee heroes do Trundle does NOT commit to fights. Trundle aims to fight only in battles he can have a very good advantage in. Trundle does well in skirmishes though since he can easily kite a small group of opponents around and slowly pick them off.

With his W and his E, Trundle can easily and safely pick someone and give them a 1-2 hit and run back out before he's harassed back. If he gets some form of focus, he can shrug it off easily and repeatedly do this. Trundle’s best chance in a fight is to have a few weakened targets before plunging right in. As his opponents die he can gain lots of his own health back and continue fighting – eventually cleaning up.

Trundle’s focus in a team fight is debuffing the right targets. Trundle can use his ultimate on a tank to make them squishy and gain the tank’s resistances or to hurt a kill target and make them softer. Whatever the case, it’s best to use Trundle’s ultimate on the tank if his team is initiated upon as most debuffed tanks can easily die by focus fire before the enemy team is fully in place to take advantage of their tank’s initiation – besides Trundle can mess up their positioning with his wall if needed. If his team initiates on the enemy – debuffing the kill target or CC machine of the enemy team can lead to a quick kill for his team.

When engaging a fight Trundle either opens up with is E or his W. When Trundle opts to open with his E it’s usually to assist his teammates initiation or poking/harassment, split a team or catch a straggler, or to counter initiate the enemy. W is often used right at the start of the fight to make sure he either won’t be the focus of enemy fire (due to some CC being a waste on him) or if he IS focused he can shrug off the initial volleys and retreat. At the same time, Trundle can run in and out of a fight easily and constantly reposition himself so he can stick to a target no matter where they are. Fighting near bushes or locations in which he can abuse line of sight gives Trundle a lot of advantage during fights.

Trundle snowballs during the fight if high health targets begin to die as he’ll restore health from them often making Trundle a very powerful clean up.

Trundle is an epic pusher. With his strong amount of steroids he can easily take down towers. He can stick to attacking a tower.

10. Time to (Rick) Roll your enemies

Trundle is a very fun and underrated character. He doesn’t have many weaknesses compared to other melees (though he pumps out less dps) and has unique tools only found in him.

Know you have to be aggressive with Trundle and have to be good at juking, positioning, map awareness, timing and power ganking in order to be a successful troll.

(if anything else – give me a question and I will answer it or add it to the guide)

Haha, Glink, you're supposed to wait until he gets more. posts Didn't you notice the "Soon to be completed." And how it skipped from 1-7? Anyways, I can concur, Stonewall is a boss at Trundle.

I love Trundle, I play him often (usually to comments like "Trundle, really?")

I saw his strengths from the beginning (Super strong/fast jungle, invasion, great ganks, tank destroyer, tough and hard to lock down)

Can't wait to see the rest
