It can't use Forbidden Idol because then it would give MP5 instead of Mana on Hit, but the B.F. Sword + Life Stealer change ruined the ability to buy it early game. It needs an intermediate item with the mana on hit passive.

Mana Reaver
Longsword + Vamp. Scepter + 150

Total Cost 950g

+20 Attack Damage
+8% Life Steal

UNIQUE PASSIVE: Your basic attacks restore mana equal to between 2% and 8% of the physical damage dealt, based on your missing mana.

Essense Reaver
B.F. Sword + Mana Reaver + 900

Total Cost 3400g

+80 Attack Damage
+10% Life Steal
+10% Cooldown Reduction

UNIQUE PASSIVE: Your basic attacks restore mana equal to between 2% and 8% of the physical damage dealt, based on your missing mana.

Since the passive comes from the intermediate item the cooldown reduction can come from the recipe without any problems.

...what.

Look at Essence Reaver as it is right now. It builds from B.F. Sword and Vampiric Scepter. Neither of those items grant Mana on hit, or mana sustain period.

If Forbidden Idol were added to the path, it would (a) justify the CDR, and (b) give it a second source of Mana sustain. It would have the Mana on hit AND the MP5.

The. Entire. ****ing. Point. Of. The. Suggestion. Is. To. Justify. The. Mana. Sustain. You. Thick. Berks.

You don't need to justify the mana sustain. It's an unique passive. The problem with the current Essense Reaver is that the passive is mostly better early game but you can't afford to finish it until at least mid game.

And guess what?

Forbidden Idol helps because you can build it early on, unlike Essence Reaver.

If Forbidden Idol were in the build path, you would have a cheap MP5 item that builds into a late-game sustain item.

The idea has merit when you sit down and think before writing a reply

Yes, but it makes the buildpath manageable, makes the CDR not random ****, and makes it not BT.

I couldn't care less about it being BT, I was mostly fine with the +60AD version, honestly, but the whole point of the item is to give you mana when you shoot things. It should not give you mana for sitting on your ass doing nothing.

And if you add an intermediate item with just the passive and no cooldown, then you only get one new stat per upgrade and the question of where the cdr comes from becomes irrelevant.

I'm starting to think that you're an idiot.

Because there's no reason MP5 is bad for the game on an ADC.

It's not that it's bad for the game, it's that it's missing the point of the item: rewarding aggressive play with more mana. You get mana sustain, but you have to stay out in the open shooting things to get it.

MP5 gives you the same ammount of mana if you're sitting in between your own towers picking your nose as it does if you shoot stuff. If you want a new MP5 ADC item then suggest one and I'll thumb you up, but Essense Reaver is not that item.

Yes- but it makes sense., doesn't require a new item, makes aggressive play rewarding but not absolutely necessary, and helps ADC's like Ezreal survive early on.

I want it to be absolutely necessary. If it wasn't supposed to be absolutely necessary then why didn't Essense Reaver give MP5 to begin with?
