Summoners –

It has been nearly a year since we issued suspensions to several eSports competitors, and we wanted to revisit those rulings before Season Four. We have been monitoring the behavior of the suspended players over the course of the year to determine whether they should be LCS eligible in 2014. We are pleased to announce two players (Christian “IWillDominate” Rivera and Ilyas “ShookL2” Hartsema) have demonstrated significant reforms in their behavior and will be eligible to play in the 2014 LCS Season. Unfortunately, two players have not reformed and rulings regarding those players can be found below.

League of Legends Competition Ruling

Player: Simon Näslund / Rayt3ch
Region: Europe
Date of Ruling: November 7th, 2013
Subject: Suspension; Violations of Summoner’s Code

Facts
Recently, Riot completed an investigation into the account histories of the players who have previously received bans from professional League of Legends play. For Simon Näslund (“Näslund”), an investigation of the player’s history has revealed a consistent pattern of in-game verbal abuse, offensive behavior and negative attitude.

Näslund’s current account, El Muppo V3, has an extremely high harassment score. The Tribunal previously punished the El Muppo V3 account five times, establishing a persistent record of in-game harassment, verbal abuse, and poor behavior:

  • Reported in 20% of his games, and 58% of his reports were for Offensive Language, Negative Attitude, or Verbal Abuse
  • Punished by the Tribunal 49 different times across all of his accounts
As a previously-banned player, Näslund was expected to thoroughly uphold the Summoner’s Code, and be a model citizen in and out of game. However, through investigation into his account, we have discovered that his behavior has not improved during his period of ineligibility.

Relevant Rules
The Summoner's Code establishes the standards of behavior for all League of Legends players.

Analysis
Näslund continues to engage in behavior which violates the letter and spirit of the Summoner’s Code. His persistent tendency to engage in verbal abuse, insults and offensive behavior is unacceptable for any player, especially a high-profile eSports competitor who has a regular opportunity to lead the community by example.

Ruling
Näslund has violated the Summoner’s Code in a systematic and unrepentant fashion, and has shown no attempt to reform after last year’s ruling.

Competition Penalties
Näslund is:
  • Ineligible to compete in the 2014 Season Spring Promotion Tournament
  • Ineligible to compete in the LCS for a period of one season; this suspension shall commence immediately

League of Legends Competition Ruling

Player: Damien Lorthios / Linak
Region: Europe
Date of Ruling: November 7th, 2013
Subject: Suspension; Violations of Summoner’s Code

Facts
Recently, Riot completed an investigation into the account histories of the players who had previously received bans from professional League of Legends play. For Damien Lorthios (“Lorthios”), an investigation of the player’s history has revealed a consistent pattern of in-game verbal abuse, offensive behavior and negative attitude.

Since being suspended in January, Lorthios has continued to show a persistent pattern of in-game harassment, verbal abuse, and general lack of reform:

  • Played regularly on at least five accounts, all of which have multiple Tribunal punishments
  • Averaged over 5 tribunal punishments per account, resulting in a permaban on two of those accounts
  • Lorthios’ most suspended account, Hide, has been punished by the Tribunal seven times
  • Reported in 19% of his games, and 40% of his reports were for Offensive Language, Negative Attitude, or Verbal Abuse
As a previously-banned player, Lorthios was expected to thoroughly uphold the Summoner’s Code, and be a model citizen in and out of game. However, through investigation into his account, we have discovered that his behavior has not improved during his period of ineligibility.

Relevant Rules
The Summoner's Code establishes the standards of behavior for all League of Legends players.

Analysis
Lorthios continues to engage in behavior which violates the letter and spirit of the Summoner’s Code. His tendency to engage in verbal abuse, insults, and offensive behavior is unacceptable for any player, especially a high-profile eSports competitor who has a regular opportunity to lead the community by example.

Ruling
Lorthios has violated the Summoner’s Code in a systematic and unrepentant fashion, and has shown no attempt to reform after last year’s ruling.

Penalties
Lorthios is:
  • Ineligible to compete in the 2014 Season Spring Promotion Tournament
  • Ineligible to compete in the LCS for a period of one season; this suspension shall commence immediately
