Jax Doesn't Counter Tryndamere.

Anyone who claims that Jax counters Tryndamere is clearly not looking at the big picture. Yes, Jax can probably beat tryndamere in a straight up fight if he makes good use of counterstrike that blocks Tryn's damage for 2 seconds and then stuns, and then avoids Tryn for the 5 seconds he ults.

But that's literally the only thing Jax has going for the counter. Tryndamere will outsustain Jax in lane with ease. While he might lose trades in terms of damage if he doesn't crit, Jax runs out of mana insanely fast(especially if he abuses counterstrike). Tryndamere can also sustain himself with his q, so if jax tries to harass him heavily, not only will he run out of mana, but Tryndamere will heal most of it back.

If Jax attempts to play passive and preserve his mana, Tryndamere can harass him with auto attacks and slowly win. In terms of late game scaling, I'd rate them roughly even. Both are very good teamfighters and split pushers(with Jax being a better teamfighter, and Tryn a better Split pusher). But in laning, Tryndamere will easily outsustain Jax and will force him out of lane or zone him. While counterstrike is a hard counter to Tryndamere since he is auto attack based, Jax cannot spam it in lane without going OOM, and Tryndamere can abuse whenever it's on CD.

Tryndamere is also much better at escaping ganks and following up on a gank(because of 5 second godmode for diving and anti diving, and non targeted escape), so he also receives jungle pressure than Jax.

I compare this matchup to Sivir vs caitlyn. Yes Sivir's kit naturally counters Caitlyn's, but cait's range and other aspects ultimately will win her the lane assuming equal player skill. You need to look at more than just an ability to determine a counter.

The point of laning against tryndamere is not to engage early game, Trynda has a very strong early game while Jax has a weak early game. Everybody knows with Jax you wait till 6, double tap a minion and then go balls deep, save your counter-strike for disengage or to chase down for a kill. Preferably you wait until the Tryndamere is dumb enough to let his fury bar hit 0.

Tryndamere also has a strong late game, just like Jax. If you play passive he will force you out of lane or zone you and gain a large cs lead, and be more useful in mid and late game.

It doesn't matter if Trynd wins lane. Jax scales into late game way better than him and late game is where Trynd shines. Yes Trynd can beat Jax in lane but late game Jax won't give a **** what Trynd is doing because he will never beat him in a 1v1. The reason for this is that Jax needs only 1 or 2 offensive items to do MORE damage than Trynd and then can counterbuild him from there ie Randuins, Thornmail, Frozen Heart, etc.

The same arguement can work for trynd. Late game trynd doesn't care what jax is doing because he will never fight jax in a 1v1.

Your first point is true.

Your second isn't even close to true.

Who doesn't start with cloth+5 pots at top? Both sides get that durability against the enemy, but Jax's mix of magic damage makes the lane a little bit in his favour damage-wise.

Why would Jax run out of mana just using empower? He doesn't need to leapstrike and counterstrike more than necessary. Maxing leapstrike is only against annoying escapees such as nidalee. If you are against a (squishy) melee then empower should be the optimal choice.

In my experiences trading against Tryndamere is easy. I beat him in damage, in durability, and I have a CC. What is preventing Jax from bashing Tryndamere the moment a trade starts?
