And why hasn't he been nerfed yet? Back to back stuns. Aoe dmg ult+stun. insane escape/chase. good poke. tanky for a stupid little yordle. He is seriously carrying every game i've played against him. minus the one where he had an afker on his team.

He is very tanky while Zhonya's is active, I'll give you that.

He excels in aoe team comps. His ult is very effective on a group, try and bait it out early, or peel him, or just cc him before he can engage the whole team. Trist's ult is a good counter to Kennen's ult, for one example. He's not the best 1v1 champ assuming he went AP, unless he uses his ult, and if kennen uses his ult in a 1v1 his team fight potential just plummeted.

Or zyra. One of the best champions to prevent a kennen from getting to your back line.

How to play against Kennen

by a Kennen main.
Lot to read here, idc if anyone bothers to read it.

Kennen has a few weaknesses:

1. He has to be in the center of the teamfight to reach full potential.
With zhonyas yes he can be in the center of the fight for a good amount of time. Realize that his ult can only strike 3 times per person, exactly the number needed to stun. If you are stunned during an ult/zhonya initiation, you will have NO marks of the storm on you when it's over, meaning he has to hit you with a shiruken or w passive to continue dealing damage to you. Make sure your path is blocked, and the maximum amount of damage he can deal to you in this initial burst (assuming he just goes in, presses r and zhonyas) is just 3 procs of his ult. You can lifesteal this back. If you can get out of his ult in time with arcane shift, rocket jump, etc., this damage is even less. I cannot emphasize just how powerful qss is against kennen. It will get you out of his circle.

Again about the maximum of 3 hits per person from his ult, at max level he has enough charges from his ult to hit all 5 of your team 3 times. If he doesn't cast his other spells during his ult, theoretically no one will have stacks on them for Kennen to press w.

What I'm trying to say is he has to sacrifice a LOT of damage by using zhonyas during ult.

2. His energy costs heavily restrict his usefulness in a teamfight
If you have a tanky team, he will run out of energy before the fight ends (unless he has blue, but no one gives him blue.) He practically HAS to build pure magic pen against these teams to be effective. He has to land stuns and touch people with his e in order to stay useful in the fight. And as I said before, hitting people with E makes him vulnerable, especially to melee-range stuns like riven and renekton. If you stun him during this abilty, he loses the mobility, and about half of his energy.

3. His dash is NOT quite the same as a gap closer.
As others have mentioned, gragas and janna destroy his approach. He WILL have to burn flash to get to you. He may have to burn flash anyway. vayne's stealth tumble can make it very hard to hit more than a single proc of your ult on her, even if she doesn't condemn. Peel can make it very hard to take down carries. Again, as an extension of number 2, you absolutely HAVE to go for the carries as Kennen, or you will lose the fight, because you aren't effective against bruisers and tanks.

There's a longer list than knockbacks though. Jarvan can completely isolate Kennen from your team, and unless Kennen wastes his ult just on Jarvan, He will die 1v1. Even if his team helps him, he will be at half health before he has to flash ult your carries.

4. His poke isn't as good as you think. Again with the energy. 65 energy for a q hurts. It's over 1/4 of your total energy. If your opponents are dodging them before a fight, they can initiate while your energy is low.

During lane phase, believe it or not, Kennen's poke is outmatched by many others. Ryze/annie simply trade harder because they can creep block shirukens. The w passive w combo isn't as strong as a single q from either of these characters. And if you stun/snare him as he's lightning rushes away, the ability is wasted and you have the easiest gank in the world. Stay behind your minions and he has no chance of 1v2'ing.

good info. and I WAS destroying him mid as brand. but as soon as laning was ending, he was roaming and killing off team mates (who don't pay attention to pings or wards). he basically wrecked us in team fights. he would e in, then w, then ult>zhonya. all of that happens too fast to stop him.

plus they had a fed zac, which didn't help either. i do agree that he can be outmatched in laning, but even if he gets **** on during laning, he can easily come back once laning is over. idk. i'll start playing ken and see how it goes.

Gragas can potentially f your team if kennen flashes to propel himself into your team.
