I'm not that big of a fan of 5v5 what with all the new modes out, and I've been doing Twisted Treeline due to it's short time, and it's still fun..

That aside, I just got Vi, and I was wondering what I should max first. I heard I should max my W (the passive), but I've been doing it in the order of Q-E-W. For maximum potential, what should I max in what order?

Always max R when you have the chance. I normally get all the skills by level 3, then max E first and then Q. This is less mana efficient than Q-E-W but helps clearing minion waves and pushing towers.

All three have their perks.

Q-> If you level this first your burst will be absurd. It does a lot of damage, and you will be mobile.

I used this is I'm trading a lot in lane and I find it fairly easy to land my Q's because my teammate isn't mobile.

W-> If you level this first you will have a pretty high DPS but your burst will be terrible.

I generally level my E three levels if I'm mainly jungling a lot and not spending tons of time in the lane. I'll max it out if I'm playing against a health stacking team like a Volibear/Sejuani combo.

E-> Level this to get your E to come back up faster and give you decent burst. Generally this is the best way to go as you can reset 2 autos in a row. It has a good mix of Burst and DPS tied into it.

Since you are just learning Vi know that your jump can jump over both Wraith/Wolves wall. Also, don't waste your ultimate on a Tank unless he's severely out of position or his team is dead. Also, realize it will put you out of position if your team isn't close enough for them to close the gap. Lastly, if you can save your Q for after your ultimate as it places you behind them and you can knock them back towards your team.

Most laning Vi players max E for farming and harrassing. Most jungle Vi players max Q first for mobility and burst. I don't think I've ever seen any Vi max W first, but if you plan to do a lot of brawling with enemies early on, it could be worth it.

Basically what you max depends on the situation and your personal playstyle.

A lot of early Vi players don't max W Because they do not see the benefits, but when they nerfed her W a while back leveling it actually makes a huge difference in clear times.

That said, I rarely ever do unless I'm straight farming the jungle, 5s or 3s. Its a DPS only move over burst.
