Brilliant suggestion to counter TANKYDPS

Right, so it's a bit arrogant to call this brilliant...but I really need the community to tell me that it isn't and why it isn't.

The items that are causing us so much grief right now are those nasty breastplates, capes, and shields. By themselves, they're not, but when mixed with the champions that we all know too well to be great with damage, this TANKYDPS nightmare has spawned.

What if....the ultimate defense items such as Sunfire Cape, Randuin's Omen, and Force of Nature came with a DEBUFF? What if they did something like lower all damage done by the wearer by a flat percentage? We'd still have our wonderfully sturdy, crowd-controlling comrades by our sides, but they won't be doing tearing people apart left and right!

But wait...you want to have an Annie that doesn't die in three hits? Okay, build ROD OF AGES! Were you always a big fan of Mordekaiser's killing potential? Get Rylai's!

Please tell me how this wouldn't solve our laments.

Seems more sensible to just do this:

When you pick an item it either has offense or defense, not both. Sunfire cape as an example gives you a load of health/armor at the same time it gives you the magical damage aura.

Well they're here to stay, as we've never seen Riot just rip a champion out of the game before. To solve the current issue, we can't hope for a rework of each problem character. Alistar is a real tank and he isn't played. Unless all are removed but him and a few others, I feel this is the only way to go about things.

Sunfire's damage is only part of the problem, though. Garen's spin and ult, Galio's ult/skills, Amumu's crying, Morde's skills, and sometimes Rammus' ult can be ridiculously painful. It shouldn't be that way.

Malphite and Gragas can cause some trouble as well, though their damage isn't as absurd as Morde/Garen and their CC doesn't stand up to Rammus' or Amumu's.

Items you spend your hard-earned gold on should never impose a penalty as well. It needlessly complicates things.

Partial solution: Form teams with at least one powerhouse physical DPS. Use them to push towers like crazy to gain control when attention is focused elsewhere.

Once you get an inhibitor down, tank teams are forced to retreat because all they can do when pushing is linger and deal medium damage. As long as you notify your team of when you should attack structures, pure damagers can dominate tanks through influence outside of champion kills.

Mordekaiser and Mundo are nigh upon unkillable, while still dealing carry-like damage via Burning Agony + Cleaver and Creeping Death + Children of the Grave (respectively). Garen is a terror during laning as he simply camps the bushes in between silence + spin combos which can only be countered via Cleanse + Flash which is extremely unpopular for good reason since Cleanse was nerfed so hard.

the only problem with any of this is that these champions are capable of high damage even while building pure tank items. it's wrong. it's just wrong. there is supposed to be a trade off between damage and survivability.

Riot just forgot about this basic concept somewhere along the way.
