GM: Sam “Hexo” Bouchard

Facts:
In light of recent evidence regarding denial of service (DoS) attacks on players on the North American server, we investigated allegations that Good Game University (GGU) General Manager Sam “Hexo” Bouchard has engaged in this prohibited behavior.

An example:
  • In a game last month, Hexo posted a message in all-chat implying that he was exploiting software to determine the IP address of a particular opponent, Robert “RobertXLee” Lee.
  • Fourteen seconds later, a teammate of Hexo responded with the chat message, “Hit it.”
  • A few seconds later, RobertXLee suffered a DoS attack which disconnected him from the game.
  • After repeatedly attempting to reconnect to the game, RobertXLee eventually was able to rejoin the game in progress, where he was prejudiced by a noticeable disadvantage in creep score and experience.
  • RobertXLee streamed the game live.
    • A video excerpt of the incident can be seen [URL2="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpPPz9SnEns"]here[/URL2]; a longer excerpt can be seen [URL2="http://pl.twitch.tv/robertxlee/b/364041882"]here[/URL2] (at 9:07:28).
    • Screenshots are below.

For context on Hexo’s usual in-game behavior, his harassment rating is currently the worst of all LCS North American managers and players (including both starters and reserve players). No other North American pro player or manager has a higher harassment score.

Definition of “DoS Attack”:
A DoS attack (or a distributed denial-of-service (DDos) attack, which is a particular type of DoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer unavailable to its intended user. The tactics vary, but generally consist of the interruption of services of a host connected to the internet.

In general terms, DoS attacks are implemented by either forcing a targeted computer to reset, consuming its resources so that it can no longer provide its intended service, or obstructing the communication media between the intended users and the victim so that they can no longer communicate adequately.

Relevant Rules:
[URL2="http://na.leagueoflegends.com/articles/The_Summoners_Code"]The Summoner's Code[/URL2] establishes the standards of behavior for all League of Legends players.

The League of Legends [URL2="http://na.leagueoflegends.com/legal/termsofuse"]Terms of Use[/URL2] prohibits players from harassing, threatening or hacking/interfering with other players in the game.

Analysis:
There is very strong circumstantial evidence that Hexo has engaged in DoS activity against one or more LoL players. We will continue to monitor the situation and investigate allegations into this behavior, using all available internal and external data.

Any DoS activity represents a blatant and willful disregard of the letter and spirit of the Summoner’s Code and the League of Legends Terms of Use. Intentionally disconnecting a competitor from a game is the very definition of unsportsmanlike behavior and unfair play.

As an LCS team General Manager, Hexo has a responsibility to lead by example; the creation of even the appearance of being a DoS attacker is grossly inappropriate.

Ruling:
Hexo has violated the Summoner’s Code and the League of Legends Terms of Use by implicitly threatening to launch a DoS attack on another LoL player and may be guilty of the much more serious infraction of engaging in DoS attacks.

Penalties:
Hexo is hereby given a first and final warning regarding the issuance of threats of DoS attacks or the actual launching of DoS attacks. Any future such actions, or any confirmed past or future DoS attacks will result in a permanent account ban and corresponding competition penalties, as deemed appropriate by LCS.

"A DoS attack (or a distributed denial-of-service (DDos) attack, which is a particular type of DoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer unavailable to its intended user. Hire me, pay me less... would love to teach league staff about the current **** on the internet.

Wait...

No punishment? Just a warning?

What the...

First of all you at least need to permanently ban his accout. It's ****ING ILLEGAL. He broke a LAW, not just the summoner's code.

Second of all, you need to disqualify his team from the LCS. Either that or force them to find another manager.

You are FAR too lenient on someone who broke a law in real life, in a video game.

In fact, I'm not going to accept this punishment. It needs to be more harsh. You're giving someone who broke the law and intentionally DDOS'd someone in-game.

Increase the penalty or I will spam the **** out of this thread until it is increased with THIS message.

I suggest others do the same. Being THIS lenient is essentially saying "Oh, we know you're a hacker, and have most likely hacked MANY times before, but we're just giving you a warning, even though you broke federal law". No, NO RIOT..

Whenever there's major server problems and a plethora of disconnects, I'm going to play and type stuff like that in /all chat to screw with people.
If they happened to disconnect shortly after by sheer coincidence, oh the fun that would arise.

you also have literally zero way to prove a DDOS attack since the DDOS does NOT EVER come from the person DDOSing ip.... EVER... so sue the host server for allowing DDOS, if u arent banning a player for performing in illegal acts, please please please give me back my $1,000 in skins for raging at morons.... i will keep an eye on this and if anything more like the comment of this OP comes out, i will make a stink

Do away with the tribunal if you aren't going to use it when it's necessary. Forums have spoken, get this trash of a player banned for his complete disrespect of not just everyone that plays the game legitimately, but for the disrespect to Riot themselves for having to deal with this behavior, and committing a Federal Offense.

Really hope someone else reports this to the authorities, so that when Riot is asked about it they can get smacked on the wrist too, though the slap on their wrist for aiding and abetting a federal crime won't be just a warning.

Set a friggin standard and don't cower to corporate sponsors who want to pay these babies to play a game that they obviously can't handle losing at. Absolute lowest of the low, if you want to cheat go back to game genie on Nintendo's, a$$monkies. And to further press the ****ing issue, I hope I get a forum ban for my language and bad ****ing attitude, just to strengthen the case of hipocrisy and ludicrous behavior against riot and these scum players. Hope those corporate **** asses pull every dollar from you and you're stuck out on your ass, will teach you a lesson in life.

It's pretty clear that he was getting DDOS'ed.
