I think there have been, over the years, contradicting messages from Riot. Back before the league system when it was just ELO points, people complained about their teams and the response from Riot was "in these situations you should be good enough as an individual player to carry yourself and your team out of it or you belong where you are at." I remember hearing this many times in various threads. Now that seems to be reversed, "No you shouldn't be able to carry yourself because it is a team game". If you win hard, say 25/4 or something, and still lose, is this your fault or your team's, if you did everything correct? Well, you shouldn't expect to win if you do well because it is a team game, but you should be able to carry yourself out. So which is it? Either:
A) You should, by individual skill be able to make up for your team's shortcomings and carry yourself out of your current division if you are that good, or
B) This is a team game and no matter how good you are if your team isn't then you will never get out of your division.
The second option seems completely unfair, and seems like the system is punishing players who do everything they can to help the team simply because the rest of their team is at a collective lower level of play. The first option also seems unfair because, as has been said, this is a team game so if one person can carry a whole team then people will be moving up even if they don't deserve it.
My guess is that there is a balancing act between these two positions, the question is does the current system get the balance right?
my teams are almost always awful, but i'm playing fairly consistently in games and winning more than i'm losing. it does suck though that one bad player can ruin an entire game, the ability to carry a win and carry a loss are very skewed and broken, taking away carries would make this an actual team game, as opposed to what REALLY happens...where one guy is good and just wins everyone's lane for them on a mobile mid or tristana
you said the best way to gain elo is to main one champion. ive got a good question for you: my main characters are aatrox and jarvan. who do you think would be good to play based on their playstyles?
example: i love being able to initiate, build high damage, yet also be decently tanky and able to survive long enough to use my rotation at least twice before my team cleans up if i happen to die, i make a valuable impact in the fight but i dont expect to live because of initiation, yet i kill 1-2 players before going down.
tldr: champs that can initiate fights yet deal high damage and at the same time provide utility for my team.
