General rule of thumb.

Strong early game champions do well. This isn't always the case because you can get behind but those who do have a strong early game tend to do better than most. Snowballers tend to do well if you can get a bit of a lead, and then there's the hypercarry. If the game goes on for more than 15 minutes and they hit their magic number (which is easy since you're getting passive gold) then they can seriously wreck the game.

Also always for the love of god take Revive. 5x revive is basically a large part of the current Dominion meta. If you're on the team with only 3 out of 5 and the other has more you're at a disadvantage unless you get a good early lead. They however can still rubber band hardcore later due revive spams.

Here's also a Dominion guide you can find on the forums here. It has some good information in it and may help you quite a bit.

<3 poppy. She is underplayed... well, with all the fun champs out, but still considered a strong pick. It is nice when Quinn is a popular pick these days

If you want to get a support for Dominion get Lulu since speed is crucial, and she has an amazing kit. Next Karma is ok She can defend pretty well since she can use spells on herself to survive long, but eventually minions will build up if the enemy is craftier than you. Soraka has an ok kit for defending by herself. But she has no mobility and you are easily ganked, she can ult when there is a fight to defend or capture which is pretty handy. Janna just defends but without her ult or tornadoe she is suceptible to death; If an enemy dives you can slow them for some turret damage, but they may get tankeir or have and escape. Nami is a good team pusher and her movement speed is great. But if you are out of range of your speedy allies you are of no help. Her stun can fail since the map has multiple entrances/exits; Her ult is great for forcing enemies back. To be honest I haven't tried Sona here but she doesn't seem effective without ult and she doesn't dish out enough damage without avoiding damage. Shen seems very good for this map since he can ult top immediately and draw enemies to turrets or away from your team.
