~Chapter 1~

***

“Garen!” Lux cried, bounding down the stairs. “I've figured it out!”

The librarian quickly shushed her.

“Really?” Garen asked, surprised. Ever since his talk with the founder of Demacia, Garen never quite understood how to use his sword. He'd recently discovered that by reciting the words inscribed on the blade caused it to return to him, no matter where he was. However, Lux claimed it was not the only thing that Doran's Blade was capable of.

“Yes!” Lux was ecstatic. “It's in Ionia!”

Garen was thrown of guard. “Hold on. What are you talking about?”

“Doran's Ring!” she said as if it were obvious.

“Ok. Now you've completely lost me.” He grumbled.

Lux rolled her eyes. “You have Doran's Blade. It enhances your capabilities on the battlefield. Doran's ring does the same thing for mages. That ring is capable of vastly increasing an individual's mana reserves.”

“All right. But what about Justice?” He interrupted.

“What?” she asked, annoyed.

“I thought we were here to find out the abilities Doran's blade has?”

“It's your sword. You figure out what it does.”

That was just great.

Garen stood there, looking at rows and rows of books, absolutely clueless of where to start.

***

“Garen. I want you to help me find Doran's ring.” She demanded.

“What?” Garen choked. The glass of water almost rolled out of his hands.

“Lux-” he started.

“Don't worry. I've asked Jarvan for you to escort me.” She interrupted.

“But-”

“He said Fiora can fill in for your job training the men.” She supplied.

“What about-”

“Xin Zhao promised he'll take your role in battle.”

“What if I-”

“I'm not really giving you much of a choice.”

Damn it. Shot down before he could even protest.

Lux was a little too good at persuading people, either with a silver tongue, or an iron fist.

He sighed. “All right. Where are we going?”

“Don't make me repeat myself.” She chided. Then her expression turned dreamy. “We are going to Ionia.”

~Chapter 2~

Garen packed up for their trip to Bilgewater. They were going to be travelling with a rather unreliable lot so he decided to leave Justice on the wall in his room. If he ever needed it, he could aways call for it later. Garen considered packing his armour. They were going to be travelling relatively close to Noxus. In the end, he decided against it. He left his larger pieces of armour and brought along his chain mail.

He walked over to Lux's room. She had decided to put on simple clothes, rather than her armour. She finished off by throwing a purple cloak over her shoulders.

She turned around to look at him.

“Garen.” She started.

“Lets go Lux.” He'd stopped call her Luxanna. It took too long to say anyway.

She nodded.

“Thank you for choosing to come Garen.”

Garen chuckled.

“If I recall correctly, I didn't really have much of a say in this.” He teased.

“But you would've done it anyway right?”

Garen smiled. He shifted the deep blue scarf on his neck.

“Come on Lux. Let's go find your ring.”

***

Getting Bilgewater was relatively simple. They left without attracting much attention, which was good. They travelled by horse all the way to Icathia. From there, took a boat to the islands of Bilgewater. They walked, soon finding themselves in the middle of a plaza.

Bilgewater was not a very good environment. It made Garen feel uneasy.

Was it normal for people to be so wild? he thought.

People were walking the streets, getting into fights every few minutes. The vendors were shouting into the crowd, each offering a better deal than the last before they started shouting at each other. Burly men intimidated the smaller ones, robbing them in plain sight with no one to stop them. Women stood at different intervals dressed in nearly nothing. It seemed like crime was a natural part of the city.

Garen tried to hide his disgust. He wanted to warn Lux to not draw attention to herself.

“Heads up Garen.” Lux said without averting her gaze “It seems we've grown a tail.”

Garen looked around him as discreetly as possible.

There.

Garen watched carefully. One person stood out among the crowd. Their shadow was wearing a dark blue cloak, blending in perfectly with everyone around him. If you were looking for him, it was obvious he was trying to not be noticed but his body language made it clear he was stealing glances at them every now and then.

Garen walked over to the street vendor selling oranges. The shop keeper smiled at him.

“You want to buy an orange?”

Garen politely waved him off. He closed in on the blue cloaked man and with a hand fast as lightning, grabbed their tracker by the throat. The person punched and kicked at him but Garen shrugged it off. He dragged him down an alleyway. No one paid him any attention. Apparently this happened a lot in Bilgewater.

Garen pushed his quarry against the wall, gently leaning his forearm on their windpipe. It would take only a small push to crush it.

“Now, lets have a peek under the hood.” he said.

His catch started struggling furiously, but to no avail. Garen managed to push back the hood.

His jaw dropped.

Red hair gleamed. Angry green eyes flashed back at him.

“You?” he asked, still in shock.

Katarina's eyes lowered in embarrassment.

Garen's arm loosened up on her neck for a moment and Katarina chose that moment to bring her knee up between his legs.

***

Garen's arm dropped. Katarina tried to run but Garen swept her aside. She hit the wall and collapsed onto the ground. Garen steadied himself for a minute while Katarina struggled to get up. Every time she did, Garen would pull her back.

Seeing no other way, two crooked blades flashed in the air. Two cuts appeared on either side of Garen's face. He opened his mouth to chant.

“Take the blade. Learn the Blade. Use the-”

Katarina quickly jumped towards him and covered his mouth. Garen tried to pry off her hand but she wrapped her legs around him and crawled onto his back. Then she tightened her grip.

Garen couldn't breathe. He was losing consciousness. He quickly backed up and slammed Katarina onto the wall. Her grasp on him loosened and he tossed her off. Katarina tried stabbing him once more but he quickly grabbed her hand and snatched the blade from her. He used his other hand to pin her onto the wall again. This time, his fingers were at her neck, ready to squeeze the life out of her.

“H-how?” She gasped. “You don't have the blade.”

“TELL ME!” He roared ignoring her question. “TELL ME WHY!” He bellowed in frustration and raised her dagger.

For the first time in her life, the assassin felt fear. Her own green eyes widened and stared back into Garen's. Fear gripped her, preventing her from uttering a sound.

“SPEAK!” Garen screamed in her face.

Katarina whimpered. She couldn't help it. She found herself babbling.

“I followed you. I found out you were after a ring. I was going to steal it from you.”

Garen stabbed the blade inches from her face. Katarina gave out another involuntary whimper.

“THAT'S NOT WHAT I'M ASKING!”

His voice gave out, along with his legs.

“Why?”

He looked back into her eyes with his sapphire blue sight, pleading. “Why can't I get you out of my head?”

***

Katarina was flabbergasted to say the least. Garen had gone from a terrifying beast to someone who looked like he needed a hug. She found herself incapable to think properly, much less speak. For the second time, Garen had done something to her no one else was capable of doing.

She quickly pushed him aside and ran. She didn't look back.

Hmmm, some serious brother/sister bonding, followed by some unrestrained love. Guess what happens next? Tee hee.

Btw. I know Garen has brown eyes, but no. His are sapphire. So deal with it. (Have you seen Sanguine Garen? I love that look into the distance.)

This is getting interesting! I don't think Garen would have caught Kat trailing them without Lux since she is a spy and stuff. Garen must have been some kind of angry to make Kat scared to the point she almost pisses herself in fear.

Yea well. Everyone keeps on saying how Katarina is so badass, is so ruthless, is such a sadist etc. I wanted to show that even though she has these qualities, she is still a woman first, so to speak. It shows that no one is immune to fear, or rather, that she is not a god. (Due to her strength in LoL, people probably imagine her as a goddess assassin, sorta like Artemis. I know I did.)

Also, I think I've said in quite a few chapters that Katarina is plaguing his dreams every night. It's slowly driving Garen insane. He thinks that it's some kind of spell she placed on him, but it's really just simple love. (Woot! Another Kittytoast Ref) Just think about it. If someone you feared, haunted you every night, wouldn't you be hostile?

Also, both Sanguine and Dreadknight show Garen with blue eyes. It's official! My favourite Garen skin has blue eyes so there (Lux has blue eyes too).

[Edit]
I kinda wanna go back and explain their journey to Bilgewater a bit more. I feel like we got to this scene a tad bit too fast. :S
