The AMA is kinda out dated as it was said Zed and Syndra have no connection and as of the beta site are listed as allies

Nothing new (newer than any previous info we have) on that website is canon yet. At that time no, they had no connection, but that's not to say they won't in the future.

This is pretty interesting, and could actually make Zed into something of an empathetic character if it is true.

Looking over Zed's lore passage, it actually adds up pretty nicely too. Zed could have been intentionally neglected in order to lead him to the box so that he would upset the Balance, become the Kinkou's nemesis, and allow for Shen to realize his calling as the Eye of Twilight.

Zed is never explicitly stated to have the "balance is a lie" philosophy during his hiatus from the temple; he is simply bitter and ambitious.

Zed marches on the temple with his army of disciples, but it doesn't seem like an act of hostility, so much as a misguided attempt at earning the respect and recognition from his master that he could never receive.

The master apologizes, as he "had doomed Zed to the shadows, instead of leading him to the balanced path".

So if the plan all along was for Zed to embrace the box, then why does Shen's father confess his wrongdoings and insist that Zed "enter the temple, destroy the box, and lead his followers to balance"?

Zed's master has the duty of being an infallible judge, but as RiotRunaan has stated above, he is still human and prone to error. The master attempts to reconcile Zed, so what makes Zed lash out?

Inside the temple, its likely that the master explains the plan to Zed: he had been being used all along, and he was simply a tool to allow for Shen's ascendance. Its likely that the sudden revelation is what caused Zed to "cry out in pain" and kill his master. Zed, in his newfound rage, orders the deaths of the other ninja, and the self-fulfilling prophecy falls into place.

If Shen's father, the previous Eye of Twilight, regrets manipulating Zed, then why does he do it at all? One of Zed's sayings sheds some light: "Tradition is the corpse of wisdom." It is very likely that the creation of forces of imbalance is part of Kinkou tradition, perhaps to stay in power?

All of the above would also help explain why Zed declares that "balance is a lie", as well as his other references to "the truth" and being "enlightened", because the balance that the ninja seek to rule over is entirely fabricated.

Whether Shen is aware of all of the above is questionable, though any sort of ignorance on his part doesn't seem to quench Zed's hatred and envy.

It was either him or Shen, one will become the master of Shadow and the other, the Eye of Twilight.

Hell, if you notice the allies and rivals, Irelia and Karma are opposed to Zed and Syndra and the feeling is mutual. Both Zed and Syndra and the Yin to Irelia and Karma's yang. Meanwhile the Kinkou are represents the sides of the scale, Akali, the chosen of Zed (who obvious fed her lies about being a kinkou ninja before being told by Shen that Zed was lying to her) and Kennen was chosen by Shen before the three united.

anyone else notice the lore of shen and zed, doesnt really make sense?

EDIT: Shen had to watch his father die, and not be emotional, or he would fail and do more training, but in zed's he walks in. kills the dad (master) and takes over the city, no time fore tests, zed was on a rampage. FIX THIS RIOT OTHERWISE ZED NUNJA POWERS TO STRONK

He had to watch his father he TORTURED, not killed, and the lore is VERY clear about that. Torture does not equal death. The lore is fine as it is, Shen's test just happened somewhere between Zed's departure and return.

Just my 2 cents :P
The Shockblade Skin might just be an alternate reality sorta thing, kinda like Kass's Harbinger skin. This is what WOULD'VE happened if ______.

As multilayered as it might be to see his skin as some alternate future , I can't look past it just being a blatant reference to StormShadow
