Buy you can pay off a credit card with the money from your debit card as soon as you spend it.

Isn't technology fun?

It uses the amount remaining in your checking account as the amount available to spend on the card. The reason it works as a credit card is because the card is usually backed by Visa or Matercard or another credit card company; however, instead of opening up a debt for you they immediately charge your bank for it instead. This is why it is called a debit card and not a credit card.

If you need to know the difference between a debit and a credit, consider taking a basic account course; most high schools and colleges, even community, offer them.

*Enters a store

*Prowls the store a bit

*Spots something shiny

*Walks up to cash register with debit card in hand

"Will that be credit or debit?"

"Credit"

*Card is accepted and I move on with shiny object.

If it has a major credit card logo on it like Visa or Mastercard you can use it like a credit card.
