I agree he deserves the permaban. That's not the point.
Its exactly the same. Your logic implies he is immune from any and all real punishment just because he is a pro player. Since he can mess around in all games that are not pro matches and still continue to profit from LoL with no worries. That may have been why he never stopped being a toxic player after 8 suspensions. In real professional sports you can't be messing around outside of games too and expect to not be removed from playing too.

Its common sense.

People need to read all the red posts before criticizing the Tribunal System. It works fine, and now that it's been clarified, I can't actually understand how anyone would feel otherwise.

Regarding the player, he did everything he could to deserve bans. Repeatedly. He was banned. Repeatedly. They took a stand and got rid of him, and dealt with it publicly on the forums to both stop the influx of thousands of threads on the subject, and to make a statement that they're going to deal with behavioral problems with professional players.

It does not matter that "It's his livelihood." People get fired for similar offenses. People get fired for lesser offenses. He's a school-aged kid without disabilities. He may be taking a pay-cut, but he's not suddenly homeless. His life isn't "ruined."

It does not matter that "Other players deserve to be banned as well." Metrics show he was at least 3 times as bad as the next top pro-contenders. He deserved to be banned. He was banned. Does Dyrus deserve to be banned? Maybe. If you think so, report him in the games you have with him when he's being "toxic." Since it's clear they respond Tribunal Reports that show very obvious and consistent examples of people being awful, go do that.

Lastly, it doesn't matter if it "unfairly punishes Dignitas." Dignitas is a coordinated esports team. They should be policing their members. They aren't. Their "punishment" of losing an allegedly valuable team member is their fault for not ensuring he was behaving in a way consistent with professionalism.

At the end of the day, there was a pro player whose actions were a detriment to the community and went against the code of conduct. He was warned and banned several times. He ignored that fact. He was banned. That's how it's supposed to work.

While I agree with a permaban of his main and all current smurfs, I think a 1 year suspension from the pro scene is high-handed. If you look at other professional sports, there are consequences for unsportsmanlike behavior. Banning his accounts, forcing him to create new ones, a forfeiture of a percentage of his 'pro salary' and a two month suspension of all new accounts from the pro-scene would be a much more reasonable punishment.

A 'recommendation' to his team owner/manager that he be *strongly* censured at the team level would probably have gone a long way to preventing this had it been brought up after previous Tribunal verdicts. It would have also given the team itself foreknowledge and the ability to plan for his replacement if they detected that he was in no way planning to correct his behavior.

Then again....this may have been the case. Unlike pro sports, like the NFL, penalties and punishments like this are not made public by the governing body. I think this thread is a positive move by Riot in the interest of making eSports more of a mainstream entertainment model.

Why are these League of Legends players being publicized? Their punishment should not be on everyone's business. I understand they're popular, but to publicized someone and downgrade them as a player. Well it's just rude. What have we become? Paparazzi?
