I don't think you are getting it though. Why would someone want to plummet their own elo a lot so that there duo partner wouldn't lose a small amount?? No one would sacrifice 100 elo so their partner could save 20 elo

Ever heard of smurf accounts?
And even if, that still doesn't solve the fundamental problem of giving incentive to be an *******. That's never a good idea. Oh, and it NEVER makes sense to flame... flaming in itself never solves anything... only that in this case it even might.

If you didn't lose elo for 4v5,
People would just start dc'ing on purpose if you started to lose.

Check out the solution I mention in my post, it may not be perfect but its definitely a step in the right direction

here the thing too... lets say with that slim chance you DO manage to win that 4 vs 5, you get no extra elo.. lol

You could only maybe do this 5 times before the smurf is so low ELO that duo queuing wouldn't make sense. The amount of effort you would have to put into leveling a new account to 30 is a lot, and just to throw it away after 5 matches wouldn't make sense at all!

Why would it no longer make sense to duo queue? You never lose Elo with the main.
Never.
Do you know how much less that is than the "little" Elo you gain? 100%.

Also, some people might even just do it for the lulz... there's this guy who has a win ratio of 95% with Alistar, because he was exploiting the fact Queue-Dodging used to make you lose Elo.

Anyway: again, it doesn't really matter in the end. The reason why Riot won't implement such a system is STILL that it gives incentive to people to be dickheads to their weakest teammate. And if you want to ban people for a certain behaviour, you shouldn't give incentive for it. That's questionable from a business point of view, as well as from a moral point of view.

Here's the thing, even if nobody would "take one for the team", there's still people who are going to constantly yell at people if they don't.

Riot has basically said that if leavers were penalized with a greater ELO loss (besides the possible ban from Leaverbuster) teammates would start harassing/urging the player they perceive to be the "weak link" to leave the game, uninstall, etc etc. especially if them leaving means their team gets a shorter ELO drop.

It'll create too many problems with the (arguably tenuous) community. But as someone above has stated you'll actually play the 5 in a 4v5 more than the 4 if you yourself never leave so statistically there isn't much reason to implement what you are suggesting, negative effects aside.

You lost elo because your Nexus exploded.

The elo system is based on a 1v1 scenario not a 5v5, until they come up with a better system to rank people you will get leavers trolls dc's feeders, the likes on both teams, its not only you, I recently won a 5v4 that we were down 16 kills, and 3 turrets. Last game before that our support rage quit and we lost. It happens to everyone not just you.
