No shipping's involved! Ignore the misleading name.

So I've been thinking; how do Rift games go in the eyes of the champs? Not overly creative, I suppose, but I'm not great at inventing scenarios, so I figured I'd try adding to one instead. I took a bit from a game I had a while back, added a bit of creative license and headcanon, and got this.

---

"Welcome to Summoner's Rift," echoed the cool disembodied voice over the jungle battleground. Its presence, though a staple of this field of combat, somehow left Blitzcrank feeling more unnerved than he was before. He was somewhat baffled in general, actually. The summoner's purchases were of no surprise, of course; like many had before, and many would after, this one focused his initial influence over Blitz's performance into speed, light-emitting wards for the dark brushes, and an emergency source of stamina and magical energy. However, when he and the yordle Tristana finally arrived at the turret of the rightmost lane, no one was in sight. They had arrived early- the diminutive magical soldiers summoned for each team were nowhere in sight, and he was sure from the disconnected whispers and fragments coming from his summoner that they were still exchanging salutations and discussing their strategy. He glanced to the blue Megling Gunner, but she was only able to offer a shrug and an impatient sigh in response. Their foes should be here by now. Where could they be?

He did not have long to wait while wondering, as the voice of the summoner suddenly filled his head. Enter the thickets, it whispered. Tristana will follow you in case of trouble. If you meet resistance there, flee. A glance to his companion's face showed her not-so-patiently waiting for him to make the first move, but her unsure stance and especially tight grip on her cannon led him to believe that she heard their orders from her own summoner, and she felt of them the same that he did. There was nothing more to do, he supposed. Steeling himself for trouble, he let loose a battle cry of "EXTERMINATE" and parted the over-grown vines walling off the brush.

The freshly-mowed interior of the large bush compared to the almost frightening, unmaintained exterior was almost as much of a shock to Blitzcrank as the fact that it was unoccupied. Moments after he had stepped fully in and finished scanning the perimeters, Tristana hopped through, running at a full charge. Though he was able to keep sudden panicked reactions largely at bay in such times due to his computerized thought processes, her organic psyche clearly did not have a handle on the situation, as she screamed and almost shot him on sight. Realizing the presence of her ally and not a look-alike foe, she lowered the massive gun quickly and blushed. Not meaning to embarrass her further, he wandered to the other side of the clearing and went about setting up one of the wards while asking if she had word of a plan. She responded with a negative, audibly trying to keep her voice neutral in tone. Understandable, he thought to himself as the ward blinked out of sight. I'm not far from that point myself, even if it doesn't show as much.

As he finished admiring his handiwork and turned to examine the lane from the relative safety of the tangled hedge, he noticed her anxiously edging her way over to his own location. He tried engaging in light conversation to take the edge off her worries- yordles and humans did that, right?- but she proved unresponsive. Taking a moment from that awkward silence to have another peek out the bush, she surprised him with a soft "I'm okay." Somewhat curious at her choice of words, he turned to her. "It's hard not knowing what we face and where this early on. It's like this every time, though. As long as we can keep our wits about us, we'll be fine." He didn't question her inclusion of himself in the "we"- he was admittedly somewhat nervous as well. He noted that she was handling it well as he gave an approving thumbs up and turned back to his vigil. Still nothing. Weird, but he fully intended to take the girl's words to heart and stay on watch. As the words "FIrst blood! An enemy had been slain," echoed, giving him an unpleasant shock, his summoner took the chance to speak again.

Garen has made the first kill of the match in the top- err, leftmost lane. His victim was Shen. In the middle lane, Caitlyn reports the presence of Karthus, and she saw Olaf heading in Garen's direction. That leaves Rengar and Kha'Zix as your opponents. They must make a reluctant team at best, but I don't need to underline how vital it is that you take the utmost care in staying alive. Both are already huge threats to you, and if they can execute the pair of you early on, our team will be greatly disadvantaged. Shyvana has been notified of the situation and will be waiting in the brush in the river for the opportune time to strike. Hopefully, the three of you combined should be enough to take them down. For now, your orders are to check the other bush, and ward it if it's empty. He gave his assent to the plan, related it to Tristana, and walked to the second of the two brushes, the determined yordle in tow.

The second shrub proved as empty as the first, oddly enough. After placing the second ward, Blitzcrank started to become a little more agitated. Where were they? Just then, a sudden flash of movement caught his attention. Embracing the magic lying dormant within him, Blitzcrank shot out his left fist, and pulled the thing that he had seen moving into his grasp. However, it turned out to only be an enemy melee minion. In their anxiety, the two champions had both missed the call that signified the incoming minions. In an outraged shock, it quickly turned its blade onto Blitzcrank, but it fell quickly to the combined forces of his fist and his companion's gun. His summoner spoke again. Good reflexes, Blitzcrank. Your foes are not here yet, so you and Tristana may as well begin rending the minions as normal. Remember that you're still preparing another grab, and stay near the warded overgrowths for safety.

Tristana was well ahead of him, though- shots were erupting from her cannon left and right, each finding its mark perfectly. It was almost amusing to see so small a yordle wield the oversized gun with such efficiency. Still, he wasn't going to make her take the whole wave herself, even factoring in what help the minions were able to give. He advanced and began liberally applying brute, hydraulic force to the bodies of his hapless foes. From here, he was able to catch a glimpse of Shyvana in her hiding spot, tensely coiled in a battle pose. All seemed well for the moment. Thus was it something of a shock when that odd, unearthly chill associated with the Void made itself known. Being a magical robot, he was merely aware of it; Tristana was already shivering, despite the day's heat. Their foes! They had waited for the pair to be off their guard, and it had worked. Shyvana had noticed Tristana's concerned grimace at the feeling, and was wearing a similar face herself. Blitz, run to meet her and escort her to the bush closers to our base, came the uneasy order. Knowing what must be done for the safety of all three champions, Blitzcrank and Tristana began moving towards Shyvana.

Suddenly, a slightly battered Rengar, confidence and rage prevalent on his visage, appeared from the fog surrounding the forested area across the river, heading straight for the isolated member of the group - Shyvana. Simultaneously, Kha'Zix was revealed by the ward in the bush as coming from the enemy base near the tower, hissing as it approached strangely, almost enticingly. Despite its insectile appearance, it had the grace and fluidity of movement of a snake. Seeing the pair approach shocked Shyvana to the point where she half-fell out of the tall grass, revealing herself to the incoming assassins. Before the yordle-robot team could do anything to help their draconic ally, Rengar disappeared entirely. Kha'Zix, making noises that could be best taken as pleasured, leaped towards Shyvana's bush.

Moments later, Shyvana ran out of the bush towards her allies, surrounded by her ring of fire, though curiously seeming to be on fire all over. In any case, she looked hurt and panicked. Unfortunately for her, though, her escape was followed by an ominous swishing noise that proved to be a whistling bolas, hurled towards her with frightening speed. The bolas hit her so hard that she doubled over and fell face-first. Tristana was shooting wildly and screaming as Blitzcrank ran in an attempt to help, though all the pair managed to do was make noise and hit Kha'Zix once with a cannon shell as it charged towards the half-dragon. With a proud, challenging roar, Rengar finally leaped out of the bush towards Shyvana, his sharp claws combining with Kha'Zix's to quickly end Shyvana's misery. As if on afterthought, the neutral narrative voice called out to all who were listening that "An ally has been slain."

As the predators turned towards their foes, Blitzcrank felt a tingling sensation in his left hand. It's time, Blitzcrank. Get them. He didn't need confirmation from his summoner on this occasion, as it turned out. Focusing his rage at the brutal murder that just occurred, he shot out his rocket-powered grip towards his foes, and was rewarded with the sensation of Kha'Zix wriggling in his grasp. Rather than free his cruel foe, though, Blitzcrank fully retracted his fist, bringing Kha'Zix in to a vulnerable position. Under the combined forces of Tristana's explosive shots, her summoner's fiery wrath, and his own fists, the Voidreaver was not tethered closely to this life by the time Rengar arrived to give aid, and had breathed its last by the time the Pridestalker was in range to claw at the robot.

The furious hunter did so anyway, of course, but received a shot to the chest and a punch to the face for his efforts. Roaring indignantly, he turned to run. However, ending the life of Kha'Zix had empowered the long-anxious champions with new skills, and they were put to good use. Blitzcrank shunted his magical energy to his own fists and legs, allowing him to run at an extremely fast pace and also to punch more quickly, while Tristana somersaulted over Rengar's head with ease, landing just close enough for the impact to stun him. Within a matter of seconds, the Pridestalker too was no more.

Well done, Blitzcrank! I couldn't have asked for a better performance. His summoner's uncharacteristic display of emotion- and pride, at that!- said something about what had just happened. Blitzcrank looked around, curiously- and unless he was unskilled at reading faces of common life-forms, he would have said that Shyvana, who was making her way back to the monster-filled jungle, also looked approving. However, those were not the only two he had impressed with his grab and punches. After breathing deeply, Tristana looked up to Blitzcrank and laughed in a relieved manner. "That… that was really something, Blitz. Excellent work."

"THANK YOU, TRISTANA. YOU PERFORMED ADMIRABLY AS WELL. I BELIEVE ONE OF MY PRE-PROGRAMED PHRASES MAY BE RELEVANT IN THIS SITUATION?"

"Go ahead, big guy." Judging by the look on her face, she expected fleshing humor, and he did not intend to disappoint.

"BEEP BOOP. SAVE THE DAY." Laughter, both robotic and organic, filled the air for a good distance around as the champions went back to work, slaying minions and wrecking towers. It wouldn't be an easy battle; those didn't exist on the Rift. Working together, however, the two champions (and their team as a whole) would do just fine, at their own pace, and perhaps even have fun doing it.

Quick headcanons explained:

Blitz: A bit more human than he lets on. Mainly, I picture him as more or less human, personality-wise, though he's a magical robot and he knows it. As such, he has less strong feelings and is often able to ignore them altogether, unless his focus is really gone.

Trist: Usually easy-going, but known to be somewhat impatient, especially when not in action. I see her as preferring shooting stuff to waiting around and hating not knowing what's going on.

Others: Not too much to say, really. Kha'Zix gives off a weird, imposing aura, Rengar is impulse-driven in the heat of battle, and Shyvana was too busy trying to jungle to get the right summoner spells to stand up to an early fight like that, lol.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated! This is more or less the first time I've written anything fanfiction-y of even half this length, and I want to know what worked and what didn't.

*wiggle wiggle* This.

THIS.

First of all, EXCELLENT on making a match sound like an actual fight and not a game. SO GOOD.

Secondly, the fighting itself was described really well! Aaaaaaah!

Third, Blitz. BLITZ. BEEP BOOP. I love your head canon.

I've never played as Rengar so I had to google wtf a bola was. Now I feel dumb but also enlightened!

Will you be doing more?

P.S. Smashed Fish! I was like why do I know that?! You commented on my pic! Anyhoo, welcome to the Fanfiction thread!!

Thanks so much! Hearing that is really encouraging, honestly. :3

As for Blitz, this and this... yeah. When I saw them, I thought to myself, "There's no way I'm not using that sometime." Finally got my chance to! But really, the thought of Blitz saying those ingame is too perfect to not be a thing. I just finished a match as him, too, so I can almost hear him saying it~

More? Hm... Took a while for inspiration to strike for this, but I'd love to do it again! Got any ideas of what next?

Also, it took me reading that to realize who you were. :P Awareness, my one true weakness! Good to hear from you again, though, and thanks for the welcome.

Good! It's nice to get feedback for sure and you're so good, you should feel good!

Those pics. Are. HILARIOUS. The second one. omfg.

Hmmmm.... Well I mean if you wanted to stick to fights, there could be any number of cool combinations of Champions! There's also tons of cool snippets in the lore/JoJ that could be expanded on! But whenever inspiration decides to hit you again, I know I will be here to read the result!

Ah, two of my favorite champions.
Anyway, my criticism is that it feels a bit too jumpy between serious and humorous, but its minor and does not detract from the experience.
Grammar is spot on.

@JadothBloodreign: Thank you! Glad you liked it.

@kittytoast: Sounds good! I'll keep playing and see what comes out of it, then.

@Trolosaurus: Which two are your favorites? Funny enough, Trist is my main, and Blitz is my favorite support. Thanks for the feedback, by the way. I'll try to clean that up somewhat, and I'll focus on making it happen less for the next one.
