Author's Note - Yes, I realize that this is a character from H.P. Lovecraft's writing. It is merely a frame around which I have built this concept - a character designed to inflict madness and despair. I know that Riot cannot use the concept as-listed; however, I'm not familiar enough with League of Legends lore to make a perfectly original character history - therefore, I didn't try.

Azathoth, the Nuclear God of Chaos
Type: Mage, disabler, tank
Resource: Mana

Description: There are those who say Azathoth is formless, infinite, and without measure. This is true. It does not have a set shape, nor does it have a conceivable structure or viable anatomy. Its existence is an affront to all creation and to reason itself. When it does choose to appear in mortal guise, it often selects a form that the rational mind can handle - at least, for a time.

Azathoth's silhouette is similar to a man only in the manner that a man is similar to a lump of melted skin and amputated limbs. A head, little more than an amalgamation of misplaced and constantly-screeching mouths and unblinking, darting eyes, sits atop a mutated collection of tumorous growths serving as shoulders. Its torso is split vertically into the semblance of a giant eye, filled with hate and contempt, yet knowing not what it sees. This ocular organ is ringed in pointed teeth. Its crimson-and-purple flesh is constantly in motion, slithering about its figure in the manner of a swarm of leeches. Occasionally an eye or gibbering, fang-filled maw bubbles to the surface. Its left side is predominantly a collection of tentacles, dripping acidic slime that dissolves all matter upon touch. Its other half is a collection of limbs both unkind and twisted, arms shriveled or bloated to uselessness. What serve as legs and feet are little more than mammoth trunklike tentacles that drag the abomination wherever it deigns to go, trailing a putrid slime in its wake.

Backstory: At the dawn of existence, Azathoth was already there. A being of infinite and untold malice, it had already conquered all creation. Some say that what sprang forth to become reality is merely the dream of this insane and all-powerful being, a blessedly-ordered hallucination compared to the waking realm where Azathoth is flesh and blood, law and chaos, the beginning and the end.

How Azathoth came to be in the League of Legends is not known. Its appearances are as random as the beast itself. None can approach it to discern its motivations; at times, it seems to work toward a singular goal without care or worry for others, or even itself. Destroying it only seems to make it angrier.

Azathoth is intended as a powerful AP tank and disabler, able to punish enemies with an array of status effects. His presence in team fights should be considerable, preventing enemies from ignoring him without taking severe losses.

Health: 450 (+80)

Armor: 16 (+3.3)
Magic Res: 30 (+1.25)
Move Speed: 310

In the Mouth of Madness

Azathoth's basic attacks and spells apply Madness, a stacking debuff that lasts 5 seconds with a maximum of 5 stacks. Madness reduces a target's physical and magical damage dealt by 3% per stack.

Once a target receives 5 stacks of Madness, the debuff becomes Insanity, which lasts 10 seconds. Targets afflicted by Insanity have their physical and magical damage dealt reduced by 15%.

Spells Azathoth casts have additional properties when cast on targets afflicted by Insanity.

Targets afflicted by Insanity cannot receive stacks of Madness.

Q: Mind Lash
Target: Enemy minion or champion
Cost: 50/60/70/80/90 mana
Damage: 75/100/125/150/175 (+50% of Ability Power) Magic damage
Cooldown: 5 seconds
Range: 600

Azathoth sends out a bolt of agonizing torment, flaying both the mind and body of the target. This single-target nuke deals moderate magic damage and applies a stack of Madness.

If the target is afflicted by Insanity, Mind Lash instead consumes the target's Insanity debuff, stunning them for 1.5 seconds.

W: Void Shroud
Target: Self
Cost: 100/110/120/130/140 mana
Shield Amount: 100/150/200/250/300 (+100% of Ability Power) damage
Cooldown: 10 seconds after shield expires
Duration: 10 seconds

Azathoth is wreathed in a bubbling, roiling mass of pure chaos, protecting itself from harm. Enemies who damage the shield, whether by physical attack or spell, receive a stack of Madness. This effect cannot occur more than once every second.

If an enemy afflicted by Insanity would cause damage to Azathoth while the shield holds, their damage is instead added to the shield's total amount (maximum shield total 200/300/400/500/600).

E: Crushing Despair
Target: Enemies within an AOE centered around Azathoth
Cost: 90/100/110/120/130 mana
Madness Interval: 5/4/3/2/1 seconds
Active Damage: 90/120/150/180/210 (+60% of Ability Power) Magic damage
Cooldown: 8/7/6/5/4 seconds
Active Duration: 3 seconds
Passive AOE: 700
Active Range: 500

Azathoth's mere presence is sufficient to drive foes slowly to the brink. Enemies within range of its passive aura receive a stack of Madness every so often depending on the level of the ability.

Azathoth can activate this ability to apply a crippling slow to foes. Enemies within range of its active component are damaged and slowed based on their Madness level (10% slow per stack). Targets' movement speed recovers over 3 seconds.

Enemies with Insanity struck by the active component of this ability are feared for 1/1.5/2/2.5/3 seconds instead of slowed. This does not consume the target's Insanity debuff.

R: Sanity's Requiem
Target: All enemy champions, target champion (see text)
Cost: 200/250/300 mana
Cooldown: 150/130/110 seconds
Duration: 3 seconds
Range: Global, tether range 800 (see text)

Azathoth opens its consciousness to the world at large, invading the mortal realm with pure, unrestrained madness. By flowing through the wide-open realm of the void, Azathoth is able to make itself known to those who fear it, coming to consume all who would look into the abyss.

On activation, this ability spawns a shadowy apparition of Azathoth adjacent to every enemy champion on the map. These apparitions have sight as a normal champion and share sight with Azathoth's teammates. Apparitions are invulnerable and untargetable. While active, each apparition channels a beam of unrelenting insanity against the champion it was spawned near, applying a stack of Madness every half second for 3 seconds. These tethers have a range of 800 and may be broken by outranging the apparition, becoming invulnerable, or becoming untargetable.

If a target would receive a stack of Madness from this ability while afflicted with Insanity, the target is suppressed, terrified and unable to take any action for 1/1.5/2 seconds. This does not consume the target's Insanity debuff.

At any time during this ability's duration, Azathoth may target an enemy champion affected by an apparition's tether. He immediately replaces that illusion with himself, consuming any Madness stacks and inflicting Insanity on his target. If the target was already afflicted by Insanity, they are instead suppressed for 1/1.5/2 seconds. This does not consume the target's Insanity debuff.

Azathoth's voice is telepathic, echoing, and deep

Champion Selected
"Ia! Ia!"

Move/Attack Order
*alien gibberish in a dozen voices*
*the sound of distant cries*
*appropriately wet-sounding dripping*
*more alien gibberish*

*slow build-up from alien gibberish, ending in the faint sound of someone singing "Cthulhu fhtagn! What a wonderful phrase! Cthulhu fhtagn!" to the tune of Hakuna Matata*

*deep, shuddering, multi-voiced roar*

Well this guy seems to be a little to OPed. his passive is a little to much and the insanity boost on the skills could be decreased some. but i like the idea of the champ. And with out being able to really test him in a trial match we just have opinions.

But if you have the time look at: Pockets, The Golden Merchant (http://na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=2802359)

This is true, without being able to actually playtest things it can be a little daunting to figure out how balanced something really is. "A little too OP" isn't really...helpful though.

Excellent. It about time we had a creature of madness in the league. Sounds like he would be a demon late game. Hope Riot takes a look at this.

stun should be longer, shield should be a little bit weaker while only letting enemies recieve one stack from it, interval should be tripled for the passive, damage should be lessened on the aoe. otherwise he is pretty cool.
if you want the player to rely on their skill for casting insanity debuffs, you should make overall damage a little bit less. think of darius, getting 5 stacks of blood on someone and dealing a truckload of damage with his ultimate and slow. you should make him more of a utility based nuker rather than full on damage burster.
