I am just so tired.. from 1200-1600 or more even.. people fight over what role they will play. Then some of the times (far too many in my opinion) they will troll and just pick something stupid and then use obscure summoners to try and force a dodge.

My solution is simple.. Add role selection. When you queue you select your role and ideally there will be a "demand" list that shows what roles are more needed in solo queue in order to lower que times.

I understand this is similar to WoW's dungeon roles.. but if it works why not?

Anyways just wanted to share the thought.

Solidifies meta. Riot doesn't want that, hence this idea will never come to fruition.

1. Solidifies Meta, as already mentioned.

2. At higher elo's the queue times would become REDICULOUS. 2k+ Already has 5+ minute queue times. What if a top main isnt in queue at that elo? You have to wait for them to finish games or log in. The queue times would **** up the pro's and encourage even more pro's smurfing due to the high queue times, messing up more peoples games.

3. Some people main more then one role. I main mid/support, what if I don't know which I want to play first?. What if that 1300 player only knows how to play 1 mid, calls it and the enemy picks a complete counter/bans that champ. Then what? "Nvm il go top." "NO I picked top before, go mid", "I don't play any other mids!"... It forces you to play a role, even if you don't play multiple champions in that role.

This whole post implies that if this were to be implemented then you would have no problem coasting to the 1700s and beyond

I assure you that this is not the case

I have a slightly improved version of this suggestion which I believes addresses one of the concerns.

See suggestion 7 in my Suggestions for improving solo ranked thread

Quote:
7) Add "roles" to the matchmaking
  • Most of the troll behaviour in solo queue ranked hero select is caused by people clashing over what roles they want to play
  • Some people are happy to play any role but others want to play just one or two as they specialise. There is nothing wrong with this in principle.
  • The problem comes where people disagree over roles which seems to happen a high proportion of the time
  • Some people "call" their desired role by frantically typing it as quickly as they can into the chat log. They feel that gives them the right to trump the pick order. "I called first!"
  • Other people ignore chat and simply pick their role when their turn comes. They feel that "calling" roles is merely a request and pick order takes precedence. "I don't care what you typed! Ranked works in pick order"
  • Then it all spirals downhill from there resulting in trolling behaviour - verbal abuse, afk at fountain, doubling up of roles etc
  • The solution I feel is fairly simple
    • When you Queue it gives you a list of possible roles (all checked by default) and you can uncheck any that you are unwilling to play.
    • The matchmaking process would then assemble teams that had all roles covered.
    • In the hero selection it would actually show what roles the person had selected to help reduce arguments and would also allow people to focus on planning their hero composition without all having to frantically type their preferred roles
    • If the person doesn't change anything from the defaults then they will be shown as willing to play all roles
What's the difference? Rather than picking one role when you queue, you "opt-out" of any roles you are unwilling to play. By default all the roles will be checked. That way those who leave more roles selected will have shorter queue times. Those who are fussy will have to wait longer.

The matchmaker would then assemble the teams to ensure all the roles are covered.

Just to be clear the roles I am referring to are the lane positions (top lane, mid lane, jungler, bottom lane, support) rather than the team fight roles (tank, initiator, carry etc).

Seriously the amount of trolling fighting over roles that this would remove in <1500 ELO matches would be worth whatever "solidification of meta" issues you refer to. Your team can always agree to vary the meta when you get in the hero selection.

The solidification of meta means that Riot is saying that the only way to play League of Legends is to have a bruiser top, ap mid, jungler, and an adc and support bot. Riot did not make the game this way, but teams have found that this is a very effective setup. Solidification of meta means that you cannot play, say, Taric top, even if you've played hundereds of games top as Taric successfully, because the current meta doesn't recognize Taric as a top champion, but rather as a support only. Champions suddenly lose their versatility, as does the game in general.

I'd rather have people just fighting for roles in 1200 than being down in 1000 where people lack the teamwork or the common knowledge to not attack tanks over ADC, or work together

1. It forces the meta which will stop the game from evolving naturally.

2. It will make queue times longer. At 1900 the queue times are already 3-5 minutes each (assuming no one clicks decline...), at 2400 where the queue times are 10+ minutes, all this will do is make those queue times WAY longer. It would be very unfair.

3. (This ties into point 2) by making the queue times longer then they already are, pro's will smurf MORE then they already do because of the queue times (25 minute queue? Might as well do 3 on smurf in the time it was to do 2 on main!) type deal. By forcing the streamers to all smurf, it is screwing up lower elo players games.

4. What if someone mains more roles? I carried myself to plat playing support nunu and mid. If I clicked the support box cause I felt like it, but nunu was picked/banned... now what? Im forced to support? Not everyone only plays 1 role, and for a good majority of the players they might only play 1 champions amazingly in that specific role.
