Sexualized Champions

As more and more female champions have been released, redone, and designed, I can't help but notice that 9/10 of them are extremely sexualized in the game, mostly in their splash imagery. While every now and again I could understand it, its just... all over the place. While sure, making a new female champion hot and sexy will probably boost your sales, maybe, its just kind of turning you into another company that uses *** appeal more than anything else in your appearance to attract people to the game.

While I'm not saying Riot should make all the female champions butt-ugly, they are kind of going overboard. While a lot of people might support the sexualization of female champions, and other people don't give a damn, it just kind of bugs me.

Take Zyra and Syndra, for example. They both have a somewhat similar clothing style, at least on their upper body. It parts in the middle and upwards to show as much skin as possible, and as much cleavage as possible, while their lore would make you think they wouldn't really be super-hot *****es that want to strut their stuff for all the boys in the yard to see.

However, SOME champions have good excuses to be sexualized, like Ahri and Miss Fortune. Ahri, in my opinion, isn't really that sexualized, though its still there. Her excuse is that she was luring men to their deaths with her beauty and charm, so she could absorb their life essence. Miss Fortune uses her charm to fool and charm pirates, so she can cash their bounties. Also, their is Katarina, who would need maximum movement with unrestricting clothing. Elise, eehhhh... maybe she has an excuse, but not a very good one.

But again, there are the champions that have no proper excuse, like I stated before. HOWEVER, there are females who are not at all sexualized, like Diana. She's fully covered, and isn't really smoking hot, but not ugly either. And Lux, who is fully covered, but again, isn't some really gross looking monster. In fact, Lux and Diana's original skins are some of the most realistic outfits you might see one a woman who would be in the middle of a battle. A metal bra isn't going to protect you as much as a light plate chest piece.

I get that its a marketing technique, Riot, and maybe you really just want to have hot champions, but come on... tone it down. I would prefer more champions with looks similar to Diana and Lux, instead of more Champions Gone Wild. As a friend of mine said, if you're game is good, you don't need rocking **** to sell it.

Just my 2 cents. Disagree or agree, I'm just simply against most of the over-sexualization of champions.

I agree. Unfortunately, its often the players who sexualize the champions, not Riot. I saw a different thread on this topic in GD, counting which champs are often sexualized, and which ones aren't; the numbers are about even.

I disagree, somewhat. Riot sexualizes the champions originally (most of the time). The playerbase takes it to the extremes, however, mostly with hentai, which is kind of unavoidable in any game.

I'm thinking this game was created originally to attract and appeal to boys. I don't think they are going to be changing the amount of cleavage shown on a female champion any time soon. Lol

This game has sexualized champions for the simple reason that there are more boys playing this game than girls (reason why there's pretty much not sexualized male champions). So I hardly think that would ever change, lolz... It makes the game a little bit predictable about new champs but oh well..

It's funny, because the splash artists are mostly to blame. Zyra, Elise, Syndra...they have no wear near the racks in-game that is portrayed in their splash art. That isn't to say they aren't sexualized, but seriously. Elise has a small chest in-game. Her splash has boobs that rivals most anime girls.

Just so you know, IronStylus is working on it. He said that after all these sexy female champions, that there's going to be a lot of non-sexualized ones. At the time that these current champions are being released, they were concepted before the huge talks about female champions. So...probably early to mid next year is when we'll get some normal ladies. Also, he hinted at a barbarian, muscular woman. Awesome!

Hold on while I care...

Oops, nope. It's a game, who cares? If you're upset about cleavage take it up with Victoria's Secret and the porn industry.

Nope, we can keep porn, can't have that gone, half of humanity would commit suicide.
This game isn't the porn industry, though.

I would say that there are definitely champs who are showing quite a bit but I think it adds good diversity into the game in the sense that not everyone is the same. In the real world there are those who are more flashy than others and having this in game reflects more of the champions character. To me having a majority of the female be a bit more revealing makes the characters who aren't (i.e. Riven, one of my favourite champions) all the more appealing and shows more of their character.

This is really a big issue, actually, with my circle of friends that play. Most of us are married, and we joke about the cannon-balls that Riot just inserted into some of the female champion's chests (Miss Fortune's 'recent' splash art remodel), but I know it bugs our wives. So I have actually avoided playing recently because its always super awkward when one of the super sexualized women is picked.
