Which one? I really want to buy a champion as soon as possible but can't make up my mind...

Both are viable mids. Depends on your playstyle.

Orianna is a good early shutdown champ with kind of a "support-esque" feel to her late game, while Karthus basically gets dominated early game and has a beast-mode late game. Dat ult. If you get Karthus don't use him to KS, use his ult to initiate teamfights or clean up afterward. His ult is your golden ticket to winning objectives like baron or towers, don't waste it just for a kill (hell of a long cooldown, you don't want it on cooldown coming into a teamfight).

Having played both some, I'd go with Karthus. Oriana has a higher skill cap in my opinion, and her ult is hard to land. It's easy to lose track of that ball.

Karthus is a great damage dealer, Orianna is more teamfight and support oriented.
I don't know too much about Karthus as I don't play him but the good thing about Orianna is that she's never useless even if you don't get decent gold as you can just go full support Orianna and still be of help to the team.

Both play very differently. As Karthus you just want to farm and make it to late game where you can crush everyone. Ori has good harassment in lane and utility. Both have game changing Ults. Try both and see what you like.

Take Karthus first, you can't go wrong with him. Pick Ori if you like high skill cap, team oriented champs. She's hard to learn, but she's awesome once you get to know her more.
