This really undermines having rules if Riot is going to try and rationalize the impact and then fine.

Both TSM and Frost looked, Frost gets a fine because 'they were smart enough to find out what was up when they looked' while TSM looked and couldnt make heads or tails.... At the end of the day both sides broke the same rule and gained intel, both side need to be fined, because they broke the same exact rule.

For Riot to fine all but the NA team, that constantly cried foul, but broke the same rule, appears bigoted and undermines the S2 Finals. Riot should strive to make rule enforcement consistent and level. The degree of analysis Riot took only further undermines the rules since according the the rules cheating is cheating, if one team is good enough to capitalize off it is irrelevant.

Umm, from what I see only AZF was fined even though several players were reprimanded for violating rules. So saying "fine all but the NA team" seems rather silly.

Good that your taking these violations seriously. But wouldnt it be easier to just make it impossible for players to see the venue screen?

I seriously can't believe that ''I cheated, but got nothing for it'' equals to no serious penalties. They did cheat, that's the point. Not that they got nothing for it.

I am really disappointed.

As the lead referee for this event, let me respond.

We keep a constant watch on all the players on stage at all times. We have cameras as well as live people walking onto stage to keep tabs in everything. All players are told that they need to remain sitting, facing forward, and with headphones on at all times, including during pauses. I can personally confirm that no WE player looked at the minimap at any point during the match.

Players make eye contact on stage fairly regularly. Team WE in particular talked directly to each other a good amount. A single, limited camera view with a field of a few feet is not enough to determine where a someone is looking on a cross-stage scale. We directly monitor players to assure this is not the case, and maintained due diligence at all times over the course of the event.

Say what you like about WE's gameplay, but they did not jeopardize their chances of staying in the tournament by looking at the minimap (EDIT for clarity- because they didn't look at the minimap. If they had looked at the minimap, it would have jeopardized their standing in the tournament. I am not, in any way, condoning any player who gains an unfair advantage from any means).

"We don’t believe, however, that these actions decided the winner of the game."
That much is obvious. The subsequent plays that followed decided the game.

The fact that this tangible impact affected how the game played out is reason enough to replay the game.

The penalty for a Korean team cheating is they have to give money to a Korean charity? Does that make any sense? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the money goes to charity at all, it just seems… Ill-concieved.

So, out of all the players accused of cheating, only Chaox and Stanley were innocent? Only one was fined and the rest got United Nations letters of disapproval?

i think the main difference that you're seeing here is that the worse kind of cheating is the one that's planned. it's like with murder. there's a huge difference between 1st degree and 2nd degree murder.

while i believe that planned cheating should result in a DQ, unplanned "omg there's a giant screen in my peripheral vision" cheating should not.
