I am already 17 and my parents still do this... Is this a problem?

Time for your parents to discover they don't own you....

Well, let's not jump to conclusions here.
OP, what race are you?

I know what you're thinking. I'm not Asian.

As long as you live under their roof for free they have a certain amount on control on you and it's okay. But this is excessive, I mean Christian Orthodox excessive.

Computers are an important tool of today's world and free access of the Internet shouldn't be restricted (with the exception of pornography and such, which is understandable). It's an infinite source of knowledge, not to mention you can easily use it to relax playing games, listening to music, watching movies/tv shows without the retarded adds to slowly kill off your brain cells. On a computer you can also discover other work avenues such as video editing, 3D animation, programming, etc, etc...

To want you to focus 100% on your studies is only going to turn bad for your future and your parents are too close minded to realize it. They think they're doing it for your own good, no doubt, but they're missguided. However it's a good thing that you're asking yourself this kind of question. If you want my opinion...get the hell out of that home as soon as you are able to. I'm not saying break ties with your family, but your parents are, quite simply, bad parents. Such restrictions can turn out as bad as no restrictions at all for someone's future.

Edit: The ONLY good side is that you have been spared the unholy things one can find on the Internet...the dark side of the Internet is a place where everything you see remains engraved in your mind for eternity...things that no man should see, secrets that were meant to be kept away from the common folks' reach for good reasons...

I probably wouldn't make a very good Asian son...my parents decide to act like that they wouldn't have a son that ever spoke to them or saw them for very long...I'm 33 y.o right now and my dad decides to lecture me on anything at all it just buys him a few months of me ignoring his existence..

Too much of it has been shown to be counterproductive, why else have schools been having issues especially in parts of the US? All they think of is making classes longer and more HW yet the results weren't great here.

My mother was like this when i was 12-15. After i turned 15 i left my mothers house and moved in with my father(divorced). I was allowed to pretty much do whatever i want. I stayed up till 2-4 in the morning playing ultima online then went to school and slept threw 3-4 classes. I always did my homework in class and made A's and a few B's (English obviously). It wasnt until my Jr. year when I got into a fight in school which landed me 20 days in SAC(in school suspension all day in a class room from 6:30 am to 5:30 am) where my the majority of my teachers didnt give me my work so i failed 4 out of 7 classes. (20 days out of a 90 day semester is pretty ridiculous) After this i lost all motiviation and faith in school and refused to do work. Luckily for me I had a scholarship for Duke University for my Pre-Sat scores in 8th grade. (scored 1300 on a 1600 scale) Unluckily for me the scholarship was nulled after my GPA dropped from a 3.8 to a 2.5.

If I could go back i would have never gotten in that fight. Gotten all A's and a few B's just be getting out of college this year or last and probably have an Engineering degree of some sort. However I got lucky and got a pretty sweet job I work for the Stage Hand Union in las vegas nevada i make anywhere from $27-37 an hour depending if I'm desingated as a carpenter, grounder rigger, electrician, high rigger, audio video tech, or a head of any of the things I listed. I've only been in the union for a year so I am still building up my reputation but I've already made over 50K in 1 year and made 4k the passed 2 weeks.

TLR I did very well in school while i was limited to a certain amount of internet time. After I had no restrictions everything went down the sh*tter. Now that im 23 I've made 50k in a year doing something I enjoy (I set up events like IPL4 at the cosmo and all the tournaments)

You should really show them how deep this game goes and how different it is from something like call of duty. My dad wondered what I was doing for the longest (a year ago when I started), until I went and showed him about the game, told him about it, showed him the history of it and everything. I explained to him how it works, how it was free and mentioned things like how this game has donated to charity and things. (Like the Jaximus skin sale from Make a Wish and the voice over line they did) You should be able to get your mom to fall for that. Say that a friend wanted you to play it.

If your parents are still stubborn then you just have to be stubborn back and start showing them why theyre unreasonable. Unless they decide to kick you out for being stubborn, you can retaliate as much as you want. I did this at like 14 years old, but luckily for me my parents didn't understand the internet at that time, as I am 21 now.

I don't know bro, but trust me most of us know that feel. I always made them let me on the computer if they couldn't help me with my homework. If your parents aren't smart enough to help you do your homework, they cannot be bound to any specific time frame you have to learn something you're having trouble with. If they're still gonna be stubborn on it then tell them, "I guess I'll fail, because I still don't understand." That worked for me.

Quite frankly, it sucks for you but it is their house and their rules. If you don't like it, when you move out let them know. However, as long as you are in their house, eating their food, respect your parents.
