How come they don't make Chalice turn into an AD item as well..?

Mainly because most, if not all AD Champs are usually less mana-reliant than the AP Champs who oftentimes rely on it, also any AD champs who want a bit of mana fixing have access to Manamune. An AD version of the Grail would be rather tacked on, and most likely unnecessary.

Basically there's not enough AD champs who would benefit from it often enough to justify it's existence.

I'd be very happy to see an AD version of the Chalice.

However, it might completely remove any reason to get the Manamune, because the Chalice gives a defensive stat.

agreed, mostly. I think we could bring back the old wit's end effect to lower the MR value/mana regen value a bit

A chalice built item (using bf and chalice for an example) could look like this:
Chalice(890)+bf sword (1650)= Harmonious Wedge (890 + 1650 + 800 = 3340)
AD= 50+5 = 55
Mana-regen (sacrificed for passive)
MR (sacrificed for activate)

Unique Passive:
On each hit or ability cast on an enemy you drain 1% of the enemy champions mana and restore HALF of that to yourself and dealing an equal amount (of mana gained) in damage to the target.

Unique Activate: You take 40% (-1% for every 25 magic resist you have) less magic damage for 2 seconds, restoring mana equal to a third of the damage absorbed. (75 second cd)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The passive gives us back the ability to lower the threat of an AP carry who has gotten a little out of hand but has stayed out too long.

The active gives us an aditional option for assassins who are getting focused primarily by people like Malz or Katarina but also leaves the item-user to be vulnerable when it's down, making it a tactical choice.

No pure MR and penalizes stacking MR, a little mana regen (different form) and damage from the passive and the stats.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Manamune is more of a pure damage item that gives mana sustain rather than HP sustain. good for naturally tanky mana AD champs, mana hungry AD champs or man stackers such as Ryze and supports (dont get it but seen it alot lately).

Or you could be awesome and get both :P

Most mana ad champs don't have abilities with high enough mana cost to justify the need for Chalice's affect.

Those that do (Urgot and Yorick for example) Build Manamune (often combined with Frozen Heart or other offenzive/defensive items with mana) to give them enough of a Mana Pool to sustain ability use.

In most cases with AD champs, you want a bigger mana pool from which to pull from as opposed to relying on enhanced regen to fuel ability use.
