This is a short guide to introduce new players to the punitive process of League of Legends.

In the game of League of Legends, there are three great forces at work to police the player community.

1. The Tribunal - A system in which players can report others for toxic behavior and have those reports reviewed by the player community for possible punishment. This is the primary system of punishment and reform in the game.

2. LeaverBuster - An automated system that will detect AFK/Leaver activity (being idle and leaving games) and in the worst cases apply appropriate punishment. This works separately from and in complement to the Tribunal (The Tribunal fills in the gaps that the automated system can't fill vs. AFK/Leaver).

3. Riot Employees - There is dedicated staff at Riot with access to information that Tribunal lacks and the ability to manually apply warnings and suspensions. All permanent suspensions are manually applied by Riot Employees after careful review of player case files.

These three forces work together to encourage and enforce The Summoner's Code, a set of guidelines for civil behavior in the game.

How To Participate In Tribunal

1. If you detect violations of the Summoner's Code, you can submit a report at the post game screen of the match in which you detected those violations in (the screen that shows up at the end of a match, showing your total wins and losses). The report option can be found near the name of the violator(s) on that screen. If the violation occurs in pre game screen or postgame screen, take a screenshot and attach the picture file to a communication ticket submitted to Riot Support (with an explanation of what the picture is showing).

NOTE: It only takes one player to report an offender for an incident to be registered so don't try to convince others to do the same in chat. it could be seen as bullying. Threatening in-game with reporting is also frowned upon. Also the report type "Unskilled Player" does not register a player for Tribunal (mainly used for matchmaking purposes).

2. At Level 20 or above, you may begin reviewing cases and voting on Tribunal. If it doesn't give you access after you turn Level 20, try logging out of forums then logging back in.

Yeah when I first started out, the Tribunal seemed a bit mysterious because it wasn't something that I had much access to at low level so I eventually started putting together info to learn more about it and form a better picture of how it works.

For anyone interested in working in the videogame industry or psychological research, it's especially good toilet reading. :P

The stars, they burn my eyes.

But good advice.

You may want to add in that LeaverBuster is harsher to new players because it tends to be percentage-based.

There's also Support Ticket reporting, which is important for stuff you can't normally report via Tribunal.

The 'reason' LeaverBuster is harsher to new players is to combat smurfs and to ingrain it in new players' heads that leaving is a no-no. (This is especially true since leaving in other games isn't a big deal, so they need to learn it early or they'll get in the habit of leaving here too.)

Hopefully there will be less AFKs and leaves among the new players if they see this thread and learn that there is a system of punishment in place for that.
