elo is not an arbitrary number. each elo tier represents a certain % of the population. so in solo que gold represents top 5%, in arranged teams gold would represent top 5% as well, but the two numbers may not correspond.

it is for this reason that platinum elo in solo que was changed from 1900 to 1850, because the top 1% was represented by 1850+ players, not 1900+ players.

does that answer your question?

in solo Q gold means you are in the top 5% of ranked players? is this true?

i believe so, yes. they will announce the official rankings at the end of the season, but as they are now, i believe that:

<1200 is bottom 50%

bronze is top 25%

silver is top 10%

gold is top 5%

plat is top 1%

diamond is top .1%

again, riot hasnt officially announced the standings yet, but this is (to my knowledge) what each tier represents.

What everyone's saying is a lie.

Riot's just trying to promote sociability and friendship.

Good guys Riot.

You realize that if Diamond elo was 2200 for ranked teams then not a single 5v5 or 3v3 team would be diamond.

The numbers have to be different because the top players in solo queue are at 2800 elo while the top ranked teams are at 2000 elo or less.
