For your combined personal scrutiny, I give to this community two images. One is an illustration from a Magic: The Gathering card (NERD) released in 2009 entitled Ionia: Shield of Emeria:

The other is the UPDATED version of Kayle's art:

Edit: my friend overlaid the two images, PLEASE look at the rocks in the bottom corners of the image before making your "warrior angels are generic" posts: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ps6fc76ebc.jpg

Edit 2: because some people can't figure out what I'm talking about: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-6...988/ROCKSS.jpg

^ LOOK AT THIS IMAGE BEFORE POSTING IN THIS THREAD ^

EDIT 3: Remember that at the time of her release date, Kayle's splash art looked like this: http://gamersyndrome.com/wp-content/...yle-splash.png
The new splash art is much more recent, and from the Chinese version of the game.

FINAL EDIT: I have contacted Jason Chan (the original artist). He was surprised and disappointed by the theft, and claims to have personally contacted Riot regarding the issue. The matter has been taken to a higher authority than the general populace now, and whether a change is made or not is between Riot Games, Wizards of the Coast, and Jason Chan himself. Please feel free to continue to fill this thread with "omg an angel with a sword lol" posts (or "you can't steal a rock" posts). I am in fact pleased and gratified by the amount of reasonable responses this thread DID get, as I myself made it in a moment of "white-knight" rage. Jason, if you read this, keep making great art. Riot, if you read this, keep making great games (but maybe be a little more careful about what art you import from China).

PLEASE NOTE IN ADDITION TO THE OBVIOUS SIMILARITIES THE LITERAL "COPY+PASTE" OF THE ROCK IN THE FAR BOTTOM RIGHT (AND THE ONE AT THE BOTTOM LEFT).

Unless Jason Chan (who painted the original in 2009) is working for Riot, this is theft in a very literal sense. I love this game, and I think that Riot is far and away the best videogame developer in the world, but this theft of property is incredibly troubling to me. Can anyone explain?

i mean an armored angelic warrior with a sword is not really an original idea for anyone...

hard to say it's theft when the idea has been around for 5000 years...

The stance with the sword like that is VERY common in pictures from the Crusades, and a paladin with wings is not uncommon either.

I dobt anyone was looking at this card when they made the art.

EDIT: also, the only thing i can look at in the first picture is the guy hanging off of the stone, that guy must be terrified.

A winged angel in armor isn't exactly the most original concept...
