Im just using a basic hard round pressure opacity brush. Its like the 6th brush in the basic photoshop brush presets used with pressure and opacity tablet settings.

I use about a 7-9 but because my canvas's range from 15"x 20" upwards to 35" x 40" at 300 dpi

There is nothing wrong with that style, im sure if you keep practicing with it you can develop a fantastic style with that.
But of course if you ever need a hand or have some questions you can always ask me here. I always have time to give someone a hand if they need it
