As a Veigar main:

NO! DO NOT LOOK AT THIS THREAD! PLEASE GO WATCH AN AMUSING YOUTUBE VIDEO INSTEAD!

... but this does give me fond memories of when an enemy Vlad was carrying EXTREMELY hard, and I ended up just buying like 3 Negatron Cloaks in a row.

... and of the game that I hit level 30 with. Some idiocy led to 9/10 champs being AP. The game went on for like 1.5 hours. I was Warmog's Force of Nature Veigar, I believe. We won.

Indeed.

The only viable counter is to build lots and lots of AP, so you can burst Veigar down through his MR.

More seriously: it's a shame when solo queue pressure brings rage to bear against people who deviate from standard. You're supposed to build adaptively. Warmog's Veigar is not the right thing to do 99% of the time. But I've seen smart friends of mine get raged against because they bought something a little odd that was actually a good purchase in those particular circumstances.

It's funny cuz in any other situation, buying lots of AP against a Veigar is like writing your last will and testament. I'd personally love to see a Warmog's Veigar though. Preferably on my team.

Edit: two Veigar players on this thread. This is clearly a sign.

So I should clarify that my post was deeply sarcastic, along the lines of "Protip: when playing against Veigar, buy lots of AP so you can burst him down before he ults!" (This would be a very poor decision.)

Building Veigar a little tanky can be effective. Not Warmog's, but, e.g., RoA. People love to go derpy 1000-AP on Veigar, but I think he can actually be a lot more effective with a touch of durability. It allows him to take at least a single shot while he gets in position. Veigar has great wtf burst power, but he's also got an amazing stun and some reasonable AoE damage.

Veigar still being alive at the end of a teamfight means catching them if you win or escaping without an Ace if you lose.

I'll be honest. I'm sick as a dog right now and too stuffed up in the head to recognize obvious sarcasm. But yes I agree. A tankier Veigar is a beast compared to his glass cannon build. Gotta love Athene's.

Again, sarcastic.

But it does bring back fond memories of one of my pre-30 games, where an Annie bought two Deathcaps and was all-chatting "WTF HOW DID YOU KILL ME". It was especially sweet because, at the time, the prevailing wisdom was "Veigar is just a bad Annie." (I half-seriously but quite bitterly would counter-quip to my friends that "Annie is Veigar for stupid people.&quot

Post-game, I laughed with her about it and suggested next time she pick up some MR and let Tibbers buy his own hat.

I've read some Red claims (in the past) that Veigar's ult needed to stop scaling on the enemy's AP because it punished them for doing well. I really disagree. Stacking AP is still absolutely what they should be doing: it's just that it gives Veigar some anti-snowball power and solidifies his theme of "Veigar blows up mages".

It also fits delightfully with his thematic feel: tiny kitty mage, went insane for lack of snuggles, bullied in lanephase, takes vengeance later on. When you catch a hyper-fed Brand as Veigar and blow them to pieces, you basically have to start cackling IRL in a shrill Yordle-voice.

Maybe. I've been experimenting with Chalice, because MY SCRUB TEAMMATES DON'T GIVE ME BLUE jk love you guys. I think I would eventually turn that into Athene's, but it hasn't really come together yet.
