The solution is VERY simple, it's scaling and base damage in its current form.

A GREAT example is Garen. His skills, with NO damaging items. Still do FAR to much.

Katarina got nerfed, because.. People realized, her scaling was bad. DPS items didn't make her ulti that much better, it already does alot of damage, so..

Lets build her as a tank, HP and Armor and MR. Ulti still rapes, and NOW she is hard to kill.

Riots answer? Make DL scale big time. You want damage? BUILD for it.

Almost every tanky champion in this game does WAY to much base damage with their normal abilities. They haven't build for any damage, why should they? Their base damage on skills is high enough.

So on and so forth. Nerf the base damage, if they want to do damage, make them buy items that give DAMAGE.

I really need to finish the math on Garen, but he doesn't do that much Damage late game. A Garen with Boots and 5 Sunfires has an average of 730 DPS with his Judgment + Sunfires assuming you get hit all 3 seconds and have no Armor or Magic Resist. Decisive Strike only does like 300 Damage assuming again no AD items because you stacked Sunfires. So assuming you had no Armor or Magic Resist a Level 18 Garen with nothing but Boots and Sunfires is doing around 2690 Damage to you over 4 seconds (DPS 672.5) every 12ish seconds.

Are we talking about the ihatehumans/phreak nerf? Because if we are everyone knows that iteration of Kat was nerfed because her scaling was too high. People only got survival back then so they wouldn't be instagibbed when they shunpoed in.

  1. Mordekaiser's damage is average with low CDs. It builds up over time as he sits in the center of 5 people and spams them, it all culminates with him getting a ghost and his damage skyrocketing. The ghost can be dealt with by telling your most valuable target to grab a QSS. Mordekaiser creates aggro because of the damage potential, there would be no reason to pick Kaiser if his base damage was low and he had to buy tons of AP to actually do damage.
  2. Shen's burst is pitiful past the laning phase unless you're someone like Ashe. If you are someone like Ashe you need to learn to play and get in a better position instead of leading the charge and getting owned by Shen. Shen has a disable that requires him to be in the center of the enemy team, in order for him to function properly he has to be in the center of the fray. He sacrifices any potential damage by building Survival. When Shen was first released a lot of players built him DPS, died a bunch, and called Shen UP. Shen is a disabler.
  3. Amumu is practically a carry in his own right but that's another subject entirely.
  4. Garen is a touchy subject. People put way too much emphasis on early game kills and as such play aggressively which just feeds Garen.
  5. Xin Zhao without damage items is countered by a chain vest.

Tank garren is more of a dps threat than some dps

But if tanks had to build a lot of dmg to be any sort of threat then why would people play them?

Im pretty sure 675ish DPS every 12 seconds isn't more DPS than any DPS. Plus like 120ish DPS from Auto Attacks between those 12ish seconds.

Mordekaiser's damage is balanced due to his lack of cc and poor scaling.

The only way a Kaiser with no damage items can deal any form of respectable damage is by getting his team to focus a carry and enslaving them, or by using multiple sunfire capes and creeping death. That said is it Morde's base damage that needs a nerf, or just sunfire capes?
