Candidate: Master Yi

OBSERVATION -

A lone figure entered the great hall. He looked more like an assassin than a warrior, but his presence sent off the aura of a master. The master wore armor with plenty of battle scars and his sword, just as battle-worn. Any veteran warrior would think twice before attempting a toe-to-toe fight with this assassin.

The assassin known as Master Yi is the only master left that knows the Art of Wuju. The master walked with a grace past the halls up to a large door. He looked up to the door and read the writing upon it.

"The truest opponent lies within," he whispered.

He said a quick prayer in respect for past champions who had walked the same path. He placed one hand on the doors and they opened before him. The master seemed to take in what was before him: a darkness that enveloped the whole room. He could smell a strong stench of magic before him. He strode forward letting the darkness enfold him.

REFLECTION -

The room was pitch-black. Not being able to see his hands in front of himself, Master Yi simply extended his mind's senses in a meditation to see around him. The room reeked of magic more than Master Yi would have liked. Within seconds of his meditation the smell of blood and death crept up on him. His eyes snapped open to the chaos of a bloody battle; the master was surrounded by a dozen Noxian soldiers, all charging at him. What happened next seemed like a blur of ghostly figures striking each soldier. The men around him fell with mortal wounds upon them as the master left his ghostly trance, some decapitated, their heads flying away.

Master Yi took a second to take in the battle before him. The Ionians were heavily outnumbered and on the brink of retreat. The Noxians were pushing their line in a chokepoint between two cliffs; it was a last stand for the Ionian soldiers, but the master soon joined their ranks. At first the Noxian soldiers didn't even have time to react; the master ran through their lines slicing and dicing at unmatched speed. The Ionian’s soon joined the fray, inspired at the sight of a champion with renewed strength. The battle seem to go on for hours but for Master Yi it flew past like minutes; moving at an alien-like speed soon started to make the Noxian soldiers falter.

When piles of Noxian soldiers were being made, they started to retreat. Soon they all fled before the onslaught. The Ionians cheered the name of their champion for the miracle of a victory they had won. Master Yi cleaned his blade of the blood with a quick whip of the sword and sheathed it. The master closed his eyes for a second and the smell of the battle disappeared. The peaceful smell of nature filled his senses, and he opened his eyes to find himself standing next to a beautiful tree. A flower fell delicately into his palm. Master Yi caught the smell of another scent, of smoke and burning flesh. He took off on the trail at a sprint.

Master Yi came upon a village burning, a memory forever scarred in his mind. He remembered this village well, for it was his home. He gazed across the horrific scene before him to see the vile murderous monster that had caused it: a man whose skin was burnt from the poison and chemicals he dealt with, wrapped in bandages with a heavy shield slung from his left hand. In the right he held a women being dragged along, still struggling to get free.

"Such a wonderful sight isn't it Yi? The delightful smell mixed in with the wonderful sounds of death. Don't you wish you could have stopped it?” He laughed with sick pleasure. “You're a powerless and pitiful excuse for a warrior," Singed called out in a mocking voice.

"Monster..." spat Master Yi.

Singed took the woman and held her in the air, choking her as she flailed around helplessly.

"Such a tragic love story. Let’s have a drink to it, eh Yi?" Singed asked with a menacing laugh.

Few times in his life did Master Yi lose control, but the sight was too much for him. It only lasted for a second before he regained his senses and he was off again, dashing across the village to stop the horrific event before him. As Master Yi was running, the bodies of the deceased villagers began to rise and attempted to grasp at him. They were easy to dodge, and it felt like the battle with Noxian soldiers, everything so slow and clumsy. The distance between Master Yi and Singed didn't seem to close despite the speed he was running. Although the villagers were easily dodged, another force came from the ground. Hands sprung up, grabbing for him. Yi barely dodged the first one, but kept on running more carefully. When the gap finally seemed to be closing, the hands seemed to come up more numerously. Master Yi was caught by a mob of hands grasping his feet and holding him in place. Master Yi started to hack off the hands but they just came back at lightning speed. His sword was eventually grabbed and pulled away from him.

"Hahaha, the master of the Wuju art being weighed down by some hands. Time’s running out, hero," Singed laughed tauntingly.

Master Yi never hesitates in battle, and after the vile words came out of Singed he flew into action. Grabbing the dual small swords from the sheaths by his knee, he sliced the hands around his feet in a blur, giving him a moment of freedom. Master Yi leapt out of the mob of hands next to Singed. Yi moved in to strike but was stopped by a magical sphere around his opponent.

"What does a master do when no option is left? Hahaha, you pitiful fool. Try as you might, you can't stop me." Singed stood inside the Sphere, still strangling the helpless woman.

Master Yi took the fury building within and channeled it into his body; he began to move with blurring speed. He relentlessly attacked the shield; slash after slash, what seemed like a hundred blows within seconds. Each hit put a little dent in the sphere but nothing could penetrate it. What he saw while attempting to break the shield broke his heart. The woman had stopped moving and was dropped. Master Yi had never felt such fury brewing within, pushing him beyond what he thought he was capable.

"Tragic, just tragic, Yi - to see your heart broken like that, but I’m getting bored of this game," Singed mocked.

The undead hands came up beneath Yi and tugged him to the ground, holding his whole body down. His weapons we're pulled away and they grabbed at his armor. The hands pulled off his helmet to reveal a tear rolling down his cheek. Singed walked up to the helpless master and leaned right up to his face.

"Tis a pity to see you like this, with no way to win. I expected more out of the famous Wuju master. Pathetic, but nonetheless Ionian scum that needs to be cleansed. One last drink, eh Yi, for your silly, tragic love story." Singed said, inches from Yi's face while popping open a bottle and starting to drink.

"A master always has an option left," Master Yi said as he mustered all his strength to break the hands holding his right arm and reached over to the left to grab a dagger hidden in his cuff. The whole moment happened so fast Singed didn't even have time to pull the bottle away from his mouth. The dagger in Yi's right hand aimed right for Singed's throat. No magical shield blocked this and it stayed true to its target. Singed flew back, gasping and grabbing for the knife in vain. Singed flailed about till he collapsed, twitching a little. The hands around Master Yi died with Singed, and Yi stood up to recompose himself.
.
The woman’s body stood up, taking Master Yi by surprise, and locked eyes with him.

"Why do you want to join the League, Master Yi?" Asked the woman.

The question snapped his attention back to what he was really here for.

"To fight for Ionian and pay back the blood the Noxians caused," Master Yi replied.

The woman, angered by this answer, walked up to Master Yi and grabbed him by the throat, raising him in the air with super-human strength. He tried in vain to break the grip but couldn't. The woman met eyes with him, but the sight was disturbing: the woman's face was ruined by chemicals and poisons, showing part of her skull and only one eye intact.

"Why do you really want to join the League?" Asked the woman again.

"To... to avenge you..." Master Yi gasped weakly. She released her grip on him.

"How does it feel exposing your mind?" She asked.

"It's a reminder of the debt that still needs to be paid," Master Yi said with a calm voice. The woman disappeared and the whole village, too. Darkness enfolded him again until a bright light shone from a doorway.

Master Yi gave a quick prayer for respect for the trail and walked into the light.
