Longram got up after being assulted by the attack. After he got up on his horse and said. "You guys got this covered so I'm going to the west cavalry. Good luck." Longram said as he road off.

(I can do this because I'm popping off mana potions like CRAZY!!! And so is my summoners)

"Ques, keep firing like crazy on those archers!"

He reaches for another potion to see this is his last one, he puts it in his pocket.

Retreat was not an option. Onor's missile company was engaged with the Demacians up close, but they could not retreat. It would not be the Noxian way. Only the cowardly Demacians would retreat from a battle. "There is no falling back, men! You will die where you stand!" He yells.

((Dat historical reference.))

((Not the most inspirational speech there buddy...))

"He's right, you will die where you stand! We will see to that, won't we men?" Althius yelled above the din, a cheer rising from the Demacians in reply.

((So I'm back. Dat Prom and dat Guild Wars 2 beta))

Leius sighed. He was weary. He has been casting magic all day, the tips of his fingers soaked with blood. His summoners were exhausted, and mana potions were depleted. Yet the battle was only halfway done. Or so he thinks. He didn't even have enough mana to gleam additional information.

"My fellow summoners," he sighs. "Grab a bow. You'll undoubtedly find one from a corpse. Fire from the backlines until your mana regenerates..."

((Lies! That's the most inspirational of inspirational speeches! Even though it's not inspirational...or a speech.))

"Are you just going to take that from that Demacian swine?" Onor, says, hoping to turn the Demacian's words in his favour. "A general's salary to the man who brings me his head!"

"If you had a general's salary, you would not be here. Try making an offer you can actually back." he scoffed. It had become a war of words, and Althius was determined to win it.

Zekiel continued to hack and slash at the enemy, both forces were grinding down slowly, and they had the slight advantage of numbers. That did not deter him, thrusting forward with his new-found anger into the enemy ranks. They would recieve more troops soon, with careful use of the barricade and the hill, Demacia's victory was assured. He didn't think it would be long before the dogs decided to surrender or flee, they would soon be encircled if they didn't. Zekiel's strikes were heavy and laboured, he had worsened his shoulder wound and felt slightly dizzy. He hoped the battle would be over soon, there were still men out there in need of medical attention.
((One dissadvantage of being a foot soldier, you're used as a wall, and are always part of long-term engagements. Soon you will run out of interesting things to say because there are simply so many people to go through. I think Zekiel will be here for a while.))

End of battle

Daytime: 0700

...As the sun was beginning to gain altitude, the orange rays reflected from the bloodied blades and armor plates of Demacian troops, fighting their opponents to a standstill in the breaches of their makeshift fortifications. The end of the battle wasn't promising to come early, and as almost every man that could fight on the field, fought, many more had to fall before this fight would truly be over.

Demacians were outnumbered still - Noxus brought light forces in bulk, but in their disadvantage was the fact that Demacia only brought heavy frontier troops here. Clad in full shining plate trimmed with Demacian gold-blue, these men wielded intimidating two-handed weapons more often than the common sword'n'shield of other troops. One hit of those almost tore a light trooper in two if landed squarely - utterly demoralized by the gore, the squads didn't back down, however, fighting with grim determination to send as many enemies to their graves as possible.

But while the footmen were relatively fresh, the missile troops on both sides were exhausted to no end - while arbalests and crossbows fired heavier than bows, they also took a lot of strength to reload, especially in rapid succession. Most of Demacian arbalests had already slumped down to the floor - they ushered their hands to move, but the fatigue denied them even that.

Same went for the mages - Leius Bracken and his Summoners exhausted all their resources and supplies in stalling the Noxians' efforts and helping the wounded. Their hands were soaked with blood of Demacians, but they played their part to the best - as the battle moved away from the fortifications, they could only rest, and then return to helping others.

Noxian mages were, in turn, much more desperate - the sheer amount of mana potions they consumed over this short amount of time enabled them to perform amazing feats for their ability; but at the same time, had intoxicated their bodies, and as the dawn broke, the four remaining mages were now all but useless. One of them was vomiting, and the others just couldn't keep themselves upright anymore. The only one standing was Ingis Belere, their leader - but even he was drained completely, and could only watch the battle going without him.

First Lieutenant Thairan, despite the protests of his men, mounted one of the horses left behind by a messenger who died, shot in the back by a pinpoint rifle shot - he rode around the Western flank to join the footmen in their counterattack. King knows what had kept him going - be it fate, resolve, courage, or Leius' skill, he saw the battle through the end after hearing that he was appointed the new field commander. It was about then that Noxians began to retreat.

The light infantry commanders saw no glory in continuing the fight - leaving their front lines behind, most of them fled downhill while some of their own were stranded, holding the Demacians at bay. Ques Merreun and his rifle troop was among them - the riflemen gathered the weapons and ammo off their dead comrades, and took off in haste, joined by Ingis who left his incapacitated subordinates at Demacians' mercy.

Finishing off the Noxian light troops took little time - those few who stayed to fight were soon overcome by the sheer might of heavy troopers, and most of them were allowed to surrender.

However, the Noxian heavy troops fought through with grim determination. None of them wished to give in to their Demacian opponents, and all of them died, taking many more Demacians with them. Zekiel's men were hard pressed against their own walls, and were about to scatter if it wasn't for a section of the main force and Longram's second cavalry wing. Onor Darkwing and his crossbowmen, surprisingly, followed their example - as the light troopers right before them fled, they only took the opportunity to fire directly at their enemies. Most of his company were killed, resisting to surrender at all costs - a few of them were subdued and chained, as well as Onor himself. Sergeant Althius fought him in his final stand.

* * *

As the dawn fog rose from the bloodied soil of the crossroads near the Howling Marsh, Demacians didn't celebrate their victory - they handled the hundreds of corpses littering the landscape. More than half of them died in this battle - but even more Noxians were killed or taken prisoner. The messenger to high command with declaration of victory was already sent. All that was left to them was to heal their wounds; tend to the dead; and wait for reinforcements.

Total casualties:
Noxus: 420 heavy troopers, 542 light troopers (295 fled), 256 crossbowmen (73 fled), 50 cavalrists (1 fled), 16 riflemen (34 fled), 19 mages (1 fled). 503 men fled.
Demacia: 478 heavy troopers, 120 arbalests, 91 cavalrists, 1 mage. 405 men survived.

Thairan promoted from First Lieutenant to Captain.
Althius Valorhand promoted from Sergeant Major to Second Lieutenant.
Zekiel Cross granted the Order of Glory, 2nd class.
Second Lieutenant Longram granted the Order of Glory, 3rd class.
Leius Bracken awarded the Order of Blue Star.
