After a couple grueling months of LOL I finally hit 30 and am interested in ranked matches

What kind of stuff should I expect from them versus any ordinary game?

And could someone explain the whole ELO concept to me? I'm kind of confused

Thank you,

If you dont understand the elo concept, and don't know what to expect vs. an ordinary game, I suggest that you DO NOT do ranked, or you may drop yourself to elo hell. You should try to have 300+ wins before trying ranked at all IMO.

"The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in two-player games such as chess. It is named after its creator Arpad Elo, a Hungarian-born American physics professor." (from wikipedia)

"Each player has a rating, which is a number. A higher number indicates a better player, based on their results against other rated players. The winner of a contest between two players gains a certain number of points in his rating and the losing player loses the same amount. The number of points won or lost in a contest depends on the difference in the ratings of the players, so a player will gain more points by beating a higher-rated player than by beating a lower-rated player. In chess, for instance, if one player is rated 100 points higher than the other player, he is expected to win about five games out of eight, and the rating changes reflect that. Over a series of games, if a player does better than expected, based on the ratings (his compared to his opponents), his rating will go up."

What to expect: set roles and a lot of serious players. Don't play ranked if you don't mind winning or losing, other wise people will hate you. Don't give up too easily either, play until the end.

I dont think you have to know exactly WHAT elo is, just that its a ranking system and the higher is the better. Don't get low. imo even if you didn't know what elo is, it shouldn't decide whether you want to try or not, because you should be trying no matter what elo your at

ranked is irritating.... i started ranked when i hit lvl 30 and had about 250 wins in normal. it will match you up with people who havnt played many RANKED games at first, and then u go through the whole banning phase. it is very very awful at a low ELO because nobody talks in the selection. also a lot of people go into ranked games only wanting/willing to play one role. also very annoying.

try and win more and u get smarter teams that work together!!! good luck

MASTER 2-3 roles. Albeit Jungle, Solotop, Mid, support.

I would advise mastering Support and Jungle as they are least likely "called" picks.
Master. Not get good at, master.
