Seeming I've become increasingly frustrated with some people who just started playing ranked games, I have a few tips for all you new players that just started ranked games too not only improved your own chances of winning, but also to minimize frustration on your own team.

Preperation :

Be prepared for ranked games, not just in knowing how the game mechanics work, but also in the way of runes and hero's.

But before even that, ask yourself, do you really want to play on a COMPETATIVE level ? I caps that word so all you new players understand that poeple on ranked play do not play for "fun" they play to win and to the best of their abilities (and they consider that "fun"), and such you should feel obligated to do the same. If you cannot bring yourself too do that, ranked games probally arn't for you (you are sure to run into alot of flaming if people find out your trying out new heroes or are not putting serious effort into the game, and considering your ruining other peoples stats for your fun it's understandable). Please stick too normal games in that case.

If you have decided you do want to play on a competative level, you should make sure you have a few AP , AD , Tank and Support hero's unlocked. This is vital as with ranked games you pick your hero's in seqeunce, and if your last too pick you will have to adept too what your team needs. It's always wise during the selection phase too coordinate with your teammates to get a good team setup which will atleast have a dedicated tank and some AP aswell as AD dps. Remember your playing a ranked match and thus you should do everything to maximize your chances of winning. This means that you won't always be able to play your favourite hero in ranked games. Because of this you should always carrying 2 distinct rune pages, in my case, I have a AP and AD page and both could also be used for several tank characters, this ensures that I have a large selection of viable champions to play with and ensures a greater chance that my team will have a balanced setup. Next too all this, you should have a good understand of the game basics before entering ranked games. Small mistakes out of inexperience are often brutally punished in ranked games.

As far as the selection phase goes, listening too your team captain is in most cases a good idea. Remember to let people know what you would like to play, but always be prepared to adept!

Work as a team :

Work as a team, right from the beginin, tell your teammates what hero and role you wish to pick and listen to what your teammates want to pick. Discuss and then pick your hero's accordingly. It might be nice that your a increbily good Jax or a awesome Eve, but these hero's in most cases need spefic hero's backing them up.

In the game itself be sure too always call heros that go missing in your lane, this helps your allies avoid being ganked alot, and thus means your enemies won't get better items faster, which means in the long run, your safer yourself. It might also be a good idea if your going too build items like Aegis of the Legion or Soul Shroud to ask if anyone else was planning on making them, these items are great for boosting your team, they are unique effects and do not stack and the solo boost isn't that impressive compared with other items made for solo boost stats. Also, if you see 3 of your allies already have a item like GA or Banshee's, it's a good idea to get one aswell (most likly when so many people have gotten one of those items it's already been told in team chat too get those) or you'll be a target standing out in the crowd.

Try to help if you can spare the time. If you see a ally having trouble in his lane with his oppenent try and setup a gank and relieve some pressure of him, or if your in trouble and being pressed constantly, ask for help. Many times teams fail to come together because you can't sense when someone needs you around, be sure to tell them too.

And remember, your working a team, it's not just you out their.

Don't be a "feeder"

If you have died several times in a game, especialy in a short amount of time without achieving any kills yourself or even assist, you will no doubt run into some flaming from your teammates, which is somewhat understandable as your making the enemy stronger and then making it easier for them to get killed aswell. Their are a few things you can do and should do when faced with certain situations in ranked games. As I can not repeat enough, it's a competative ladder, thus you should always do whats best to win the game. For instance, if your jungling and you notice golem has been warded at start and are constantly being ganked / forced back, just go and lane (i've made this mistake myself to be honest) don't be denied so much exp that you become underleveled. If you find out your being targeted out in team fights, don't try and finish that dps item first. Check out what got you killed, look at what damage sources do the most damage, see if it's magic or physical and buy some survivabilty accordingly. And if you have trouble laning against a certain hero, ask if someone wants to switch lanes with you (this is especialy important for the middle lane, you shouldn't let your ego get in the way while your responcible for mid). Call mia's but also respond too them, it's not a good idea to be pushing a tower when theirs 3 MIA's.

Remember, it's better to be safe then sorry.

Goodluck & Good Hunting

I hope this gives some of the new players a better idea about how to prepare and what to expect in ranked games and hope that this information helps some along their way to glory.
(Sorry for any grammatical mistakes, english is not my native langauge)

The problem with ranked solo is that half the people you get matched with and against are scrubs that just want to farm ip, and don't give a **** about the competitive part.

or they want to mess with their elo... definitely seen guys sandbag to drop their elo down, sucks but it allows them to get back to a point where they can easily destroy guys... then when they get too high they simply lose some more.

I have been wondering...in solo ranked Q's if you do well but have a team of scrubs that throw the game...does your elo go down? Basically is it based on individual skill level or the teams? If so how the can you ever get out of ELO hell? I usually have an above average K/D/A ratio every game yet 9/10 games im matched with noobs or trolls...how is this fair? I was told the better you do the more you will get matched with scrubs...so it balances the skill level of the teams...this makes little sense to me and I hope it is not true...

Purely win/loss. K/D/A doesn't actually let you know how skilled the player is, so it's useless to try to use it to estimate skill. When you think back on the game and think 'Hey I just went X/Y/Z,' you're actually thinking of those three numbers within the context of your entire game, something the human brain is much better equipped to deal with than a computer, at least at the present date.

The placement game matches have more of a random factor than established games. You could theoretically have a team full of people whose true Elo is 1600+ versus a team of people whose true Elo is 700 except for you. So the first, say, 5 games or so you need to be really aware that you can have wildly different skill levels among the players involved.

But after 10 games or so, you're where you belong. If you can't carry a game against 1200 Elo players, you're not significantly better than them. If you're losing games with huge KDA values, it usually means you're making terrible decisions on the macro level about when to fight, which objectives to go for, or what to build after having a strong laning phase.

Because your KDA is just a small component relating to the outcome of any particular game (and only because of cash flow and time spent dead), though if you consistantly have a higher KDA then you will consistantly have higher cash flow for your team and make the other team spend more time dead and thus have a statistically higher chance of winning your games.

Just because a casino has the edge doesn't mean they'll win every time, just that they'll win in the long run.

Just because you post positive numbers every game doesn't mean you'll win everytime, but you'll win in the long term, and if that's the case, you should ascend from ELO hell.

There is someone on the opposing team going through the exact same thing you are at every given moment. Zero sum, etc.

Ok, Ill be honest, I've only been able to play ranked yesterday and I love LoL and I wish to play competitivly mostly because I have friends who are ranked in Bronze IV, and gold IV, but most of all to show me skill. Recently I've won 2 matches and lost 3 (I know that's bad) and they told me to practice. Which i know i need, but to be honest, I can play Jungle very well and It's hard to practice in normal queue when the enemy team and your team are still learning the game as well, and I can't really test my skill to the fullest. I wish to redeem myself among my fellow ranked players and NOT to be Toxic with a 3 game losing streak, If anyone wishes to train me, or just to help me become a better player overall, give me a shout out. I play NA Server IGN: Zerichan/ Good at: Jungle, Mid Mage, Bot support, Top Tank or APC. I own 28 Champions most of them being AP and Jungle. I DO NOT OWN EZREAL! Pls I need some help I really wanna do well or even better and not just become a burden for my teamates because ill just beat myself up about it. Thx alot for reading!

-Don't necro threads. This is from 2011, which you might notice is 2 years earlier than anyone cares for. Create your own thread. Increasing your mental awareness to notice details like this will also increase your awareness in game.

-Fill out your rune pages. With decent runes. (full tier 3, no mana/armor quints)

-Learn to last-hit. You average 50 minions in 30 minutes. You should be hitting 50 minions in 7 minutes. Practice this skill by going into a custom by yourself and heading to lane, only last-hitting minions. Try not to miss any. Do this until last-hitting becomes natural enough that you can focus on learning how to trade damage with and harass your opponent without losing much CS in the process. You're automatically guaranteed to lose lane with terrible CSing since that automatically means your enemy is better at getting more gold than you, even if you may be better at killing them.

-Learn other roles. For sure, learn support. It might be boring, but it's necessary and if at any point you need to fill, it's likely going to be the support role.

-Good job on the wards, you actually buy some every game (unlike some other players I know). But your death count tells me that you're likely not using the information that you get from them very well.

-Added you in game. Give me a shout any time for practice matches, questions or advice.
