Working intermittently here.

Still, farthest I've every gotten into a lol game on Linux (which isn't much farther than the first two minutes).

Its working well enough that I'd like Riot to

a) Ditch the atrocity known as Adobe Air for something sensible like...oh, say, Java, or HTML5... (both of which run cross platform, well, on Win/Mac/Linux).

b) Either straight up releasing the client for Linux, or patch up any wine problems so it doesn't take long to get it up and running. Real software companies have done this in the past (support their app directly via wine), Riot should think about doing it now.

c) Purge DirectX so the working Mac port can be run....anywhere. This includes crazy places like...oh, say, Chromebooks, Tablets, Phones you name it. (although the latter might not be up to spec for LoL so it might be playable on those at 10 fps or something).

That's going to be a bit of a stretch since the problem goes from DirectX's lack of multiplatform support to different CPU architectures.

Archlinux here, working perfectly (minus the lag spikes from last weeks patch)
Not sure if you're aware of this or not, but you also need to winetricks in d3dx9 and vcrun2005.
Also you should be able to download directx9 from here and drop it into your ~/.cache/winetricks/directx9/ folder, then run winetricks d3dx9.: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34429
If you have trouble please post back and I'll try to walk you through this.

Oh yes, you'll almost certainly need this to make in game shop work properly and not crash client: https://github.com/A-Metaphysical-Drama/LoL-Linux-Tools

Eh, the CPU architecture is lower hurdle than GPU problems; we invented C and C++ decades ago to ensure that porting programs from one architecture to another was not a problem. Given a working assembler for that architecture, it doesn't matter what the CPU is, unless you were extremely silly and writing a lot of assembly code (I don't think Riot is writing a lot of that).

Anyways if CPU architecture was really a big problem every-time you got a new Intel/AMD processor you'd have to recompile LoL...not just re-install it on your HDD. The majority of the world uses one instruction set, mobile phones might be using another, but any issue with getting a C program onto a mobile phone has nothing to do with the cpu architecture, most of it comes from vendor lockdown.

Anyhow, LoL is a simple program as far as the mechanics go. Its richest where it comes to graphics, so 90% of any of your porting problems have to do with the graphics stack.

A stack which, we can use here on Linux, but relatively poorly it seems. There was this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallium3D but I somehow doubt it would do much better than wine's d3d package.

At any rate, it seems others are having better success than I, so it possible simply that newer cards which have better hardware than mine may fare much better, even with crappier drivers installed.

Hi guys, i installed the the game using playonlinux and works great except for:

In game minimap.

Out of the game store.

Out of the game rune page editor.

I was wondering how do other wine users manage to edit their runes?
