i'd say he's more red buff dependent since it's basically the only thing that would make his ganks threatening. as yi, you don't need blue buff to gank, but if you don't have red buff, 9 out of 10 times, the person you're ganking will get away (unless your ally in that lane has some cc of their own)

Yi's ganks are just shy of Shyvana's in terms of actual usability. He has the potential to clear his camps fast, but he has no real initiate. Now, pair him with someone who can like Swain or Taric in the lane he's ganking, and yeah, he can be a nightmare to peel off with red...

Yi is a cleanup champ, which is rare in today's meta.

You have to wait for all the CC to be blown in a 4v5, then you need to activate your ult and charge in from the sidelines and hope that your team got them low enough that you can grab some kills fast before you die. If you build him tanky DPS, his damage output doesn't scale and his lack of CC will make you a subpar carry. If you build him glass cannon, all they have to do is save one stun for when you come in and you're dead before you can even Q.

However, if the enemies are too stupid to save an exhaust or stun for you, Yi has one of the highest damage outputs in the game and can wreck pretty hardcore. He's an easy champ to play, but a very difficult champion to play correctly.

Yi is a very strange champion, particularly in the jungle. I think a lot of people underestimate him but that's because a lot of people play him like he's any other champion.

The thing about jungle Yi is that he can clear camps lightning fast and his run speed is just as fast. He can walk into your jungle, kill all your stuff and be gone before you know it. The problem here is when Yi tries to actually fight. Yi's damage at high levels is absolutely incredible, but he's so squishy that it doesn't matter.

You're goal as Yi shouldn't be running around killing people or trying to wrack up your kill count - you can't, you just get blown up too fast. Instead you invade their jungle, shut their jungler down by robbing him of buffs and experience while also clearing your jungle with your crazy clear speeds. Once the team fighting starts you should NEVER EVER EVER be involved.

You're job is to back door the **** out of the enemy team. They come to stop you? Run to the other side and work on another turret because you run faster than just about any other character in the game.

I once played a game with a jungle Yi who when something like 2/9/4. Our team was up something like 34/14, but he abused Yi's ability to push towers and his natural speed (combined with teleport) to single handedly push 9 towers and two inhibitors. We could never engage a team fight because the moment we did he would back door and push a tower faster than we could react, and because his natural mobility one of us alone couldn't keep up with him so even if we could beat him in a straight fight when we went to defend, he would just run away and wack another tower.
