I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up before, but I thought I'd bring it up now in any case.

We all know that SOPA / PIPA are bills that smother the freedom we have on the internet. We've seen the arguments against them (look at the OP if you haven't).

Now, what some of us might not know is that the ESA (Entertainment Software Association) supports SOPA / PIPA. Unfortunately for us gamers, people are assuming that the ESA stands for the entire gaming community, or at the very least a majority of it. I find this to be misleading, and I'm sure you'll agree with me in saying that most gamers at the consumer level have an opposite stance when related to this bill.

Now, the ESA is the organisation that that runs E3, one of the biggest annual trade shows for computer and video game industry related content. I ask everyone here to withdraw their support for the ESA by spreading the word and asking game reviewers, developers and other content publishers to NOT attend or cover E3 so long as the ESA maintains it's support of SOPA.

TL;DR: http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode...-sopa-and-pipa

I wouldn't go that far... What about removing child porn sites? Should it be a violation of the first amendment to remove those?

@pyrolord777:

There's a difference between the censorship suggested by SOPA/PIPA and the removal of harmful websites.

SOPA/PIPA don't actually remove anything. All they do is try and block access. They also allow censorship at the ISP level without proper process. A mere accusation of copyright infringement could bring a website down on it's heels. SOPA/PIPA can also enforce fines for posting any kind of derivative work on the internet; things like song covers, possibly mods etc.

However, I do agree with you that chemicalT was a little extreme with that statement. Internet censorship isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just that the way SOPA / PIPA is going about it is ridiculous.

Dang. My teacher was talking about this too and he asked me about my opinion on SOPA.
Four words. "I don't like it"
It honestly affects me as a gamer and it concerns me that it affects riot in a way too. Seriously, I hope SOPA doesn't pass. You know what. F*** it. I KNOW it's not going to pass.... Hell, it better not pass

Riot, I'm disappointed that the LoL website is not blacked out today. Even a partial blackout that could be undone by viewers after the initial message was received. (See Wired.com)

Not every player takes the time to look at messages like these. You could have had a stronger impact on your fanbase.

It seems most every American is cocky. Yeah, the US is the most powerful nation in the world right now, but the internet stands for International Network. We, the United States have no real authority over the internet, save a few national sites, such as Hulu. If the UN were doing this, I would still have a problem, just not this problem.

It seems every international I meet has their nose held so high they cannot see the point, much less hit it.
