sho wa refers to the emporor era

juu hachi means the 18th year of his reign

and haru means spring,

^, and also a side note, this says bushi

which is a soldier, conscript, or samurai, its a really general term for a warrior

Thanks for the info. Any idea how common this sort of sword was? I have no idea if it was an officer's sword, or the kind of sword that many infantry received, etc.
