While this is correct, all you need to do is look at the Champion Spotlight that Phreak put up. They seem to pronounce it "Sin Jao"
While this doesn't quite match Chinese pronunciation, we must also remember that this champion is their creation. O.o

I dont care if its their creation to be honest. They spelled it using a Chinese dialect so to speak. Therefore its Shin Jaow. I dont care how "Phreak" pronounces it in his videos. Thats like calling Shaco "Shacko"

That's not the proper way of spelling it. Xin Zhao is "hanyu pinyin" which is spelling it out with english characters. It doesn't work well if you don't know how to properly pronounce it though, because it's still a little different from the way you would actually spell the sound out.

Actually it doesn't have tone symbols, so i'm not sure if its called hanyu pinyin, but its spelled the hanyu pinyin way.

The problem with Hanyu Pinyin is that it was originally derived by the Russians...which is why we have all these screwed up phonetics.

You also have to take into consideration that there are more dialects of Chinese than there are dialects of all European languages combined so pronunciation will vary drastically. For instance, I speak fluent Mandarin while my g/f speaks Cantonese...we can't understand one another.

The other issue is that the different dialects also follow different rules. Chinese (any dialect) is a tonal language...which means the emphasis and tone inflection will change the word into a completely different one. Mandarin has 5 tones, while Cantonese has around 8 or so different tones.
In mandarin the tones are:
1st tone is flat, 2nd tone is a rise, 3rd is a dip then a rise, 4th is a drop, 5th is a light interjection like tone.

It's hard to explain without hearing it. The Chinese language was unified in literacy only.

The way I would pronounce "Xin Zhao"
Xin would be closer to Jing or Shing
while Zhao would be closer to Chow, or Tzao.
(the numbers representing the tone number)

It really depends on the meaning behind the words and what dialect it's being said in.

That being said...Phreak's pronunciation is a perfectly valid one. There are numerous meanings that the name could have depending on which specific characters are used. (Mandarin has a lot of homonyms. For example, the pronounciation for "One" and "Shirt" are the exact same. Same with the pronounciation of "No/Not" and "Cloth". Written, they're very different words, spoken they sound the same).
