New Masteries on Ryze - Alternative to 9/0/21?

I've been messing around with the Season Two Mastery Planner (http://thefwcentral.com/lol/) and thinking about Ryze. As with the season 1 masteries, it makes sense to put 21 in Utility for Mastermind, but I'm wondering if there isn't a better alternative.

IMO, there's a huge gap in the Utility tree after Transmutation (spell vamp). It seems like you have to spend too many points on XP and gold boosts to get to Intelligence and Mastermind. Not to mention that it's mathematically impossible to boost both Intelligence and Perseverance.

If you stop after maxing Transmutation, you'll have 7 points left (assuming you got the magic pen in Offense). The best alternative I've devised is a 15/0/15 build, grabbing Sage in the Utility tree and boosting Ryze's pushing and last hitting in the Offense tree (max Alacrity and Demolitionist). With the final point, I grabbed the Exhaust/Ignite/Ghost mastery in Offense, since those are the most likely summoner spells to be chosen alongside Flash.

This is by no means my new "build," just some thoughts based on some tinkering I've done. Hopefully this is a good way to open up the discussion.

http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/build/ryze-mana-carry-guiding-past-misconceptions-of-ryze-58477 and there are 6 other guides with ratings over 60%. One suggests 0/9/21 because he has 4000 mana after 15 minutes and the health regen would be 10/20/30 per 5.

Most were 9/0/21 but none were 15/0/15. One was 9/7/14 I think.

Good job reading the title and nothing else. I'm referring to the new Season Two masteries, which are appearing in the next patch.

Yep, I did a great job there.

Started 4 days ago and the next season I know nothing about so sorry. Everything I learned in the last 4 days going out the window then?

This reminds me of Diablo 2 ladders. Every new ladder Blizzard would make changes to the spells or magic items.

I was looking at a 0/18/12 build or something like that.
Offense Tree masteries are meh (AP, crappy CDR per point returns).
Grab basic defense masteries, Initiator (movespeend at >70% health), and CDR per level.
Get mana, movespeed or MP5, and spell vamp in Utility (skip Awareness and CDR, since CDR per level gives you more).

Ryze duo bot with Sage and Awareness- the extra XP might let him reach solo lane levels, even with a support leeching from him.

It's a tough one when Offence is out of the question.

I build my Ryze heavy on pure tank items (e.g. Thornmail instead of a RoA) and I pretty much just play Dominion nowadays so I'm thinking going all out with 0/21/8 + 1 with full CDR/level, both move speed masteries, 2/3 Honor Guard and 2/3 Hardiness. Extra point can finish off Honor Guard or get Summoner's Wrath.

It looks like a nice kit with better mobility and can survive longer on a point but I'm really unsure about damage output without +15% magic pen. Sustain hits the floor too but that's to be expected when we lose Strength of Spirit, but at least it's not critical in Dominion.
