Champion Roles in Dominion

I keep seeing people talk about 'tanks' in Dominion, and I'd like to assert that that role does not exist (or should not) in Dominion. A tanks goal is to prevent damage to teammates (Hence taunts, knock backs, toss, etc that tanks have). In Dominion, if mass 4v4 or 5v5 fights are happening, both teams are doing something wrong.

Instead, I would say rammus and alistar are effective for very different reasons in Dominion, not for tanking.
Rammus - highly mobile in a map where movement speed / mobility has a much higher value than in normal. His taunt makes him a great defender, and his ult makes him a good disruptor and killer at times with his innate survivability.
Alistar - his knock up, knock back, and ult make him great at disrupting enemies, controlling smaller fights, and great at defending.

These are the types of roles that I see happening in Dominion:
Defender - The guy that says "solo bott". These champs are great at defending a turret for long periods of time by themselves. They thrive in fights where the enemy has to come to them (to take the turret), and can kite / harass well.
Examples: Swain, Karthus, Soraka, also saw an amazing Sona do this. (Saw a brilliant Shaco do this really well.)

Harasser/Kiter - These people don't quite sit and defend a turret as the above do, but instead excel at harassing and annoying and then kiting enemies. You try to tap a turret, only to have a nidalee spear come flying out of the jungle at you. Every time you try to re-tap, you get hit with a spear. You pursue, only to realize you cannot catch Nidalle in the jungle, and are now low on hp.
Examples: Nidalee, Udyr, Ezreal, Alistar can do this pretty well.

Bashers - Those that kill. They just go straight for the pvp every time. If 2 of you are tapping a turret, and an enemy is coming, they are the one that breaks off to intercept. Pretty much any character in the hands of a good player can be this, but certain champs excel at simply killing other people. Especially since Dominion tends to have more 1v1 or 1v2 fights than a normal map.
Examples: Xin Zhao, Jax, also champs like Poppy, Vayne, Gangplank

The Ninja - This is the guy who is always popping up at your undefended turret and runs off before you can kill em. This persons only goal is to tap turrets (which is why they always have priscillas). They are people that move fast or stealth, and don't commit to pvp unless they KNOW they will win.
Examples: Eve, Twitch, Blitzcrank, have seen Singed, Udyr, Nidalee do it pretty well.

Other roles or examples of this?

I think that covers it. Although its "cap" a turret, as in capture. Very irrelevant, good post.

Rammus can be a pretty ridiculous Ninja.

Even has the skin for it.

The power of a good pusher shouldn't be ignored. Minions can neutralize or even take turrets for or from you if cleared by a strong pusher and left unattended. The best defenders are also often strong pushers, so that they can exert pressure on the enemy team's points without having to directly assault them, as well as defending against minion pushes that might take your own points.

Most champions have at least one role that they excel in, but the best ones are also versatile enough to fulfill another role in a pinch. Being flexible and adapting to the situation at hand wins the game.

Why should you say there is no tanks? A tank would be great to asorb the tower damage in the case of event no one has a Garison up and ready. They'll also help your carries stay safe to make sure you have a clean fight (or as clean as possible) at a enemy turret to help cap it.

Yes, very true. His speed with ball allows him to cover a lot of ground and he's very hard to kill 1v1. This means when he's capping and someone comes to stop him, a lot of times he can taunt, ult, and beat em down. If they don't die, they usually run away (as they are now pretty low) and he continues capping.

A very good point, and your right on the money that most defenders are good pushers too. Usually a defender will do that when there is nobody to defend against, push and clear a wave or two of minions. If your at your own bottom turret, you just push all the way to their bottom. Karthus and Swain are both really good examples of this, they clear minion waves fast and can get a good push quick. Even if they get stopped capping the turret, a good minion wave will finish it off - and then they get to defend.

Tristana is an example of someone who is versatile. With explosive shot, I've seen her just mow through a big farm of enemy minions (they don't have much hp) allowing her to push or defend vs enemy waves well. Yet I've seen her just be an absolute champ killer in the hands of a good player.

Do you think people with global (or near global) ults represent a category of their own? Pantheon, Gangplank, Ez, Lux, Karthus, etc. Those people that can interrupt tapping or influence team fights from a distance? Many times an enemy will 1v1 someone on your team and win, leaving them at low hp, and if you interrupt them, the turret will get 1-2 shots on them. Good map awareness grants some easy kills
