it must have been a legal reason then. the client still works normally, and if it had to deal with server strain, riot would have done a better job of breaking the client. there's probably some money issues between transgaming and riot.

Maybe LoL contract with apple was only valid while steve jobs was the ceo.
Random theory that is probably wrong is definitly right.

Back when this fiasco started I put in a ticket w/ Riot support asking when I'd get my champion pack and they said they didn't know. I don't know where ppl were getting "end of September" from.

We are regretfully going to shut down the Mac Beta client indefinitely starting 12:00 AM PT on September 6, 2011. We realize our current approach regarding the Mac platform won't guarantee the quality and frequent updates we deliver today on the PC and are expected by our player community. We will continue to investigate the opportunity to provide player access on the Mac Platform in the future that aligns with our service and content update standards. We are committed to building a solution that will work on the Mac in the long run, but it will take some time. Additionally, testers that have utilized the League of Legends store during the Beta can either continue playing the PC version of the game, or receive a full refund on RP purchases made (which would close out the account). Details of the refund program will be communicated to these players via email. As a result of this situation, Riot would like to give all active participants in the Mac beta a code that unlocks the Champions Pack, as a token of appreciation for the time they have dedicated to helping us evaluate the Mac client and our sincere apology for not being able to have the testing work out as originally planned. To qualify for the reward, you must have a majority of your logins come from the Mac client, and you must login to the Mac client and click on the Store button between Friday, September 2 and Tuesday, September 6. Rewards will be added to the accounts of verified testers by the end of September.

you apparently didn't read the announcement who was quoted in every single thread made in the last month, or the thousand copypastes of the same old message.

happens.

Alien Ware is funding LoL it only makes sense that they would say cut the mac program. My theory is that Riot likes the Mac client and that is why they made it so easy for us to continue to play. Maybe when Riot gets its funds back up and doesn't need to depend on Alien Ware they will give us mac back.

Yeah Tencent--which is THE THIRD LARGEST PUBLICLY TRADED INTERNET COMPANY IN THE WORLD--funded Riot Games by acquiring them for $400M earlier this year. The Alienware co-marketing program's input to Riot top line revenue is likely small potatoes in comparison to the Tencent deal.

And Tencent is the most formidable of the next generation gaming titans. The company has been methodically building relationships in the Valley for years, very quietly acquiring stakes in dozens of companies and some small companies outright. As a refresher, the company is not merely the largest Web company in China, it’s the third largest publicly traded Internet company on earth. Like most Chinese companies, it’s been loathe to make acquisitions in China– in part because of it doesn’t want to dilute its culture– and in the US– in part because it doesn’t want the potential American backlash. The fact that this deal was slipped so under the radar, with no outcry no doubt will embolden Tencent and others to make more US purchases.
