I just want to double confirm something.

How do resists work?

A)
-MR blocks abilities even if they are from an AD caster and have an AD bonus damage type.
-PR blocks auto-attacks and on-hit effects only.

B)
-MR blocks any magic damage from items, on hit effects, or abilities.
-PR blocks any physical damage auto-attacks, items, on hit effects, or abilities.

B)

On a lesser note, I know that MR lessens the damage of madreds, so I suppose it works on deathfire grasp too? hmm.

Any damage that is qualified as Magic (regardless if it scales off AD, AP, HP, etc) is reduced by Magic Resist.

Any damage that is qualified as Physical (see above statement) is reduced by Armor.

Simple example. Lichbane proc. It scales off your AP. BUT, it makes your next Auto Attack strong. Auto Attacks are Physical damage. SO Armor reduces Lichbane's effectiveness even thoguh it sacles off AP.

pretty much what shiredragon said. MR counters magic damage, Armour counters physical damage. true damage not countered by either.

but when looking at the ability dont worry about how much damage or what it scales off, the only important thing your looking for when trying to counter a champ is what damage type is listed, and usualy when a damage type is not listed its magic damage by default.

All autoattacks from all heroes is considered physical attacks I believe, as in armor will reduce their autoattack.
All caster heroes will have magic damaging skills as they all scale off AP.
*Correct me if I'm wrong, I think caster minions are also physical despite being "casters".

As far as I know, skills that scale off AP will always be magical and skills that scale off physical damage will be physical. The former is mitigated by magic resist and the latter by armor. If it's scaled off both, it usually is dealt as magic damage, i.e. Gragas's E and Jax W.
