Hey guys, we wanted to go ahead and let you know about a new API hook that we put in with the most recent patch to should make custom recommended item lists a bit easier to maintain than before. The new approach will remove the need to constantly redo your recommended item lists with every patch, but be warned - this is an unsupported pathway that may still have some issues with it. That being said, we felt it would be a cool thing to expose to you guys, especially given the popularity of the many fan tools out there. As there is no UI support this post will be written for people who like to finagle around with clear text .ini files.
To create a custom recommended item list for a champion you need three things: the name of the champion, the game mode, and the ID numbers of the items in the game. Let's say that you wanted to change Akali's recommended items for both Classic and Dominion. To do so you would need to create two different files (RecItemsCLASSIC.ini and RecItemsODIN.ini) and place them in:
"League of Legends\RADS\solutions\lol_game_client_sln\release s\0.0.0.71\deploy\DATA\Characters\Akali\"
The CLASSIC file will be used for Twisted Treeline and Summoner's Rift, while the ODIN file will be used for the Crystal Scar. These files will not be overwritten when patches arrive. You may need to create both the Characters folder and the actual character folder itself depending on your local machine. The contents of those files should have the following format:
